I have seen bits and pieces of your hut build and skull stakes...But seeing it all together- it is quite the unusal project. I love it because it is so different. I like traditional halloween, but get very excicted when people stretch and go outside of tradition. Also that it a family affair with you makes is awesome. Very unsettling to see all those skulls on poles.
( also love your house re-do on another thread. Great work)

Well...I've always been...different.

It's probably more a family affair than you even realize. My dad and my brothers all have little projects they're doing.

I've always got a kick out of your swamp, and that scarecrow thing in the last pic there is fabulous. How did you form that burlap? Monster mud?

Cylonfrogqueen....them are some spooky looking pictures of that there Gator!

For us our theme follows the continuing saga of Mistress Muffy at Collinwood Mansion. This year on my web site the story continues based around her trials & tribulations living in the haunted mansion. The story is based after "Dark Shadows" because my maiden name is "Collins">>>>as my business "Collins Chocolates". On our web site a lot of fiction is mixed with fact which confuses people even more especially the locals cause there is a lot of fact !lol

The story this year has been around David the cousin anouncing his wedding which was to take place at the mansion the weekend before the Hallows Eve Ball when the families european & asian friends are all there for the ball. Only the family vampires have a different fate for David. SO Halloween night is the funeral of David which sets the scene in the living room (funeral parlor)

His to be wife freaks out & insist the bridal party attend the funeral in full wedding attire & as passers by pay their condolences she will be cutting her wedding cake & handing each a slice. (I'm making an old time wedding cake favorite....Barcardi Rum cake with chocolate ganache & raspberry preserves, the kids will get the big pumpkin cake.) Will decorate the cake in a gothic fashion.

The dining room is the Vampire Parlor where the rest of the living dead family awaits & celebrates their latest member about to arrive.

The foyer will still be a mixture of things & the hallway & we decorate the "Bat Room". (bath room)

The kitchen is the "Cadaver Cafe & Candy Kitchen" where they get their treats & look at the fake foods of the cafe.

New this year is exiting out the back door into the garage with its "Spell & Potion" room & next to it a lot of draped fabric to make a gypsy fortune telling tent.

Cemetery & such outside. As I said hope we can round up them red hat ladies for help this year. Crowds are getting bigger & we need help.

I'm excited>>can't wait!

See, that's where I want to get to.

I HAVE a story, in my head. Not all fleshed out, but I really have no idea how to present the story to people.

I watch WAAAAAAYYYY TOO MANY DOCUMENTARIES. So, a lot of it is centered around actual religious beliefs of many African tribes, with a good chunk of Mayan, Aztec, and good ole UnO thrown in. It goes like this:

When a person dies, their bodies are buried, but the spirit remains to watch over the family for some time. On Halloween, those spirits are reunited with their bodies. If the spirit was cared for properly, and it was a good person, they move on to their next lives. However, if the spirit was evil, or the person was wronged, they become a wandering spirit, and will rise from their graves to bring famine and pestilence on the land.

To prevent this, these evil spirits were collected in one graveyard, and guardians were assigned to watch over them, and bind them to the graves by whatever means neccessary.

Needs work, I admit. But, it's what everything is being based upon. Human sacrifices out front to empower the rituals in back to bind the spirits to the graves.

NEXT year (not enough time/cash for this year), those graves will have voices wailing from inside them and the grave caps will be shaking and rattling with a MIB style rig when people walk by.
