I am about at the breaking point. My dog ruined another gargoyle today.
I had 2 gargoyles on my front porch. One was a heavy rubbery plastic that she took to gnawing on...dome tears and such on it, it dosn't look good, but its not ruined badly. The other was a $20 Target one I bought last year, hard plastic...she tore big holes in his face, ear and wing. Ruined. She also took out 2 smaller ones on a garden shelf out there.
This is to say nothing of her fondness for chewing on the wiring harnesses for towing the trailer I need for my business...shes chewed the trailer wiring apart in 4 places, and took the one off the truck twice...I am about out of room to slpice these back on.
This all happens when she is tied outside...we only have one place to tie her where she won't get herself tangled up. I shortened it so she can't get to the trailer anymore.
And she knows perfectly well that she's not supposed to. She understands NO, but when shes alone and bored, she takes whats there. We have left bones, rawhide, toys out for her, she still does it. We have tried spraying things with ammonia or this dog repellent that doesn't do a thing.
Anyone have luck training their dog to leave stuff alone? She's mostly a good girl...we adopted her in December from neighbors who werent taking care of her. Before that she ran loose 24/7 and was quite a neighborhood chewing terror. In fact she did chew up 2 strings of lights and some of my spiderweb last halloween.
Right now shes hiding under my worktable because I'm mad at her...I've got to find some way to get her to leave non toys alone, before she destroys a really expensive prop.

I feel your pain, dogs will chew on everything sometimes. I would gladly swap you situations with dogs though, at 6 this morning I woke to my dog (who sleeps in a crate) doing a sit-n-spin while projectile spraying doggy butt mud. Clean up took all day.

OHHHHH I could go into endless stories of my neighbors dogs chewing my stuff up.
I have lost several hundred dollars worth of stuff and if my neighbor wasn't my best friend, her dog would be shot or gone ASAP. (sorry dog lovers, let the crap happen to you then lets see how it feels) it gets pretty expensive to have to replace shoes, water hoses, flowers, etc...
OOOO I gotta stop sore subject.

Just keep the props away from her.

Uhh, well, she has these 4 legs, and with them she can move about. I don't have that big of a place, so short of locking her permanantly in a cage, that doesn't really work...Just keep the props away from her.
I will have to move the gargoyles...although the pretty, pricey one she broke today...I think it may be trash destined. I salvaged what bits I could find...debating on if I can rebuild the nose, and perhaps mache in the other holes and repaint the whole thing, it will look like a crumbling one, but at least salvage it.

Brutal. We have a large dog and six kitties...yes, six. All our props are stored in closets or high on shelves. Pepper spray? Definitely not in a confined area and it most likely will harm/kill your pets as they react much differently to Pepper Spray than a human.
Vet advice from Dan: Check into apple bitters spray or any kind of bitters which Meg and I use to prevent patients from gnawing on casts or wraps. The bitter isn't dangerous, can be used inside and tastes utterly disgusting! Trust me, they will learn fast with this stuff."It's rising out of the pumpkin patch!"

Just lock them in a room and never let her in it.

ooh i feel for you and totally know how you feel right now ....
i am an ex dog breeder and i am a dog lover but when a dog missbehave i dont tolerate it , their are way to get the dog away from the stuff their not suppose to touch they do this for many reason nervousness , anxiety , lack of training , etc .....what works with dog is repetition teaching , if you dont caught the dog while she/he is doing it she wont get it , if you do always give her the same punishement for chewing you can make her taste something bitter and show her the object and tell her NO and punish the dog , a dog wont get it either if you are mad at him for a hole day , 10 min after he is punished he wont remember why your still mad , so repeat the same punishement for each miss behavior ....
and like others said their are also spays and homemade mixtures dogs wont like the smell of or taste but the behavior problem needs to be adressed too.....dog isnt a human that teaches itsefl it needs a human to teach him
now as for neibourghs dog breaking my stuff dont get me started ....lolA Witch from Canada
