My family was never really into Halloween. The most we ever did was give out candy and I went trick or treating when I was 10-12 years old.
But my mom got me into horror movies. She brought me to The Exorcist when I was around 4. We watched all the horror movies after that - the Omen, Halloween, Friday the 13th, etc. When we would watch movies at home, I would crawl under my grandmother's chair while she was sitting on it, hold onto the front legs then cover my eyes when the scary scenes would come up.

Did your family/parents have anything to do with why you love Halloween so much? –

We were so freakin' dirt poor when I was growing up that holidays always sucked. EXCEPT Halloween because my mom was super crafty and could make FANTASTIC costumes from nothing at all. We always had the best costumes growing up and the candy was a bonus because we didn't get it hardly at all the rest of the year. First horror movie that I remember seeing was also with my mom at the drive in. American Werewolf in London. I still hate werewolves today because of that movie. Even though I watch it now as an adult and see the humor in it.....it scared the crap out of me back then.

my mom decorated & made the best treat bags in our neighborhood(she still does that) & would make carmel apples & hand them out. 3 of my aunts did some decorating too so i guess it comes from my moms side of the family.

I don't think so. My dad's mother passed away on Halloween when he was a kid so he was never into it. My mother decorates like mad for every holiday, but I really loved this haunted house she had that lit up with different colors and played spooky music ...it broke a couple of years ago, I wish it were still around. I'm not really sure what got me into Halloween so much. Probably the candy, fat kids love candy, lol

My mom definitely played a part in my Halloween obsession. She got me started on horror movies and Halloween at a young age, and my interest in the macabre has only grown as I've gotten older

Nope not a thing.
My mother and father would get us the cheapy costumes and take us TOT up until I was around 8 or so, but after that, we had to figure out our own costumes and take ourselves if we wanted to go. No interest in art, horror or suspense movies, or any of that stuff.
My father was that guy that is in every neighborhood that gave out bad candy. He loved those old fashioned peanut butter kisses in the orange and black wrappers. He would buy several bags of them AFTER Halloween and save them until next year... and the year after...
He would do the same with easter candy. I still to this day can't eat a Cadbury egg without thinking about the time I bit into one and almost broke a tooth as it was over a year old.
He wasn't doing it to be mean; he grew up during the depression dirt poor and always does this type of thing.
Can we say EWWWW? I told him it was a miracle that our house never got vandalized over the years.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

yep everything.
mom started before she had any kids, dad got into when he moved to first shift and we had to wait till we were in high school to help with the haunt...somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright.
And the best advice you may ever get is never to go out…at night.
