Thanks all!

I love the fake pumpkins...I don't have to watch all my hard work rot! I've never carved a Funkin before...they're a little expensive for my taste. Last year I bought pumpkins from Garden Ridge for the first time but I just don't care for the bright orange color. I think the ones at Michael's have a more realistic color.

And yes, they are priced by size. Since I buy at Michael's I pretty much only get them with a coupon (and I try to buy a few during the after Halloween sales for the next year). The two I have pictured here are $15 and $20 full price, so I paid $9 and $12 for them.

Rikki...I'm sure glad I found this thread. That is an incredible idea of carving a pumpkin. I am amazed at how simple it would be to carve and store without watching your sculpture rot away over a few weeks. Wonderful way to decorate.

Thanks for the great thread...gotta run to Michaels now...

Ohhh okay. That's an awesome idea!! I was going to say... she must be a miracle worker if she can keep them from rotting until over 2 and 1/2 months from now! My hubby and I carved our pumpkins last year around the 15th of October, and by week's end they were starting to rot, so we had to buy 2 more pumpkins and not carve them until the 29th.

Looking good, those look pretty intense to carve... you must have a real steady hand!

Anyways, great job Rikki. I wish I could follow a pattern but I can't even do that!
They usually run about $20 at michaels but they are on sale for $10 quite often. (or you can be really thrifty and snag a bunch at 80% off a few days after Halloween this year and be ready for next).

Needless to say that's what I did last year.

halloweenrocks the patterns are easy. I get the Pumpkin Masters ones, you just cut out the page the pattern is on, tape it to the pumpkin and use a little poker to tranfer the pattern onto the pumpkin. Cutting them out is the hardest part especially if they have a lot of small pieces that need to be cut. The kids love to do them.

Rikki I love the pumpkins, did the hot knife get messy?

The patterns are super easy to use, like Maleficent says. I couldn't find the little poker tool so I used a nail (wrapped some tape around the top to make it more comfortable).

There was no mess at all! Unlike with the saw where there's yellow crap everywhere when you get done. All I had to clean up was the pieces I had cut out. It was great!
