Okay guys...after 14 years of doing my own yard haunt...the house next door has gone up for sale and when my WONDERFUL bride suggested the unthinkable, lets start our own haunt. I'm going for it...I'm starting up my own haunt. Yikes. It just got real. There was one in town here that started up and going on their 5th sucessful season, I decided to hopefully retire early and go for it, doing what I normally would do the rest of the year, dream up props and so on, and put it to good use working for myself. The one thing I REALLY want to add is a dark ride. No one in the upper midwest has one, and I want to incorporate it into being just a part of the haunt, does anyone have connections or info on the best systems? I'm not afraid of used or even against creating my own and Ive googled it checking out the doombuggies and the like....need some input guys...anything would be great!

Congratulations CROGGY!!! So, will the haunt be located at the house next door? If so, then you may want to check into the zoning and make sure the city would allow it. After you get that all squared away, I'll send you a resume..

Sounds awesome, even through all of my jealousy.

Lol...thanks Rookie! That was the first thing I did, and the nice thing about small towns, we dont have zoning laws as stringent as bigger towns...if at all for that matter...and since there is a haunt already established...hard for the establishment to say no...

We always had a dark ride built into a huge RV that came with the fair every October. The good parts were the rooms that were completely made up of blacklight stuff. Some of them were pop-ups, others were static, but the whole effect was great.

The metal saloon doors that the cart smashed through was a simple but effective part of the ride, as was some other simple props like a jet of air to the face, black threads hanging from the ceiling that gave the impression of cobwebs, etc. I think it would be awesome to have the doom buggies pass a hallway that would have a Pepper's Ghost effect at the end of it.......the possibilities are ENDLESS. And you don't need "expensive" to get "entertaining".......YOU'RE SO LUCKY!!!!!
