Help with "rank" change???

I saw a thread a few days back about changing one's own "rank" as printed under the user name, but the instructions didn't work for me. Any help? This "Great Pumpkin" thing is too whimsical for me!

After you have submitted 150 posts, you automatically achieve the rank of "The Great Pumpkin." You can't change your rank until you have 500 posts. Then you can select your own custom rank.
