I don't know if a thread like this exists, but I was wondering what kinds of things are off limits, that you would not do in a haunt, and why won't you do them?
Seems crazy I know, but there has to be a limit somewhere, right?

...somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright.
And the best advice you may ever get is never to go out…at night.

I'm pretty small compared to most haunts in this forum so its pretty simple right now but as we continue to grow our haunt every year it will change I'm sure.
For us.....Gore is out. I just got to many little ones to start scaring the hell out of them so I stick to scarring within reason.
Ha.....thats the reason I am having such a hard time with my "Scary Scene" for the contest here......I wrote the story right away but then realized I don't have any props to build a scene that would go along with my story. Its going to be interesting to see what we come up with!lol
Even I'm curious!!

For me, inflatables are OUT. Anything "cutesy" is a no-no. I'm sure the kids would love them, but I would be clinically ill at the sight of them.(hey, you asked)

I'm going to sound like a parrot, but:
No gore
No inflatables
(for the same reasons as Muffy and Rookie said)
I also will never do a walkthrough in my house. At the most, I could see growing until we do something in the garage, but I am way too paranoid to deal with strangers and such going through my house. I have a hard enough time getting comfortable with having a party, and I LIKE the people we invite.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

i have to agree with the inflatable, way to puffy. but as for gore, we do it but not to an extreme.
we might turn our porch into a walkthrough, it kinda is already, but we may need to add an exit on the other side so people dont have to backtrack
i will never again to a mock hanging with a live person. the stunt is just too dangerous....somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright.

Pretty much all of the above for myself as well. I do more of a haunted house look, than anything gory or bloody. Inflatables...well, no offense to anyone, but I think they are kinda lame. Would love to do a walk through, but with sue-happy people, there is just no way. Iwon't do any zombies or those exorcist looking kid props either, mostly because they scare ME though.

I dont do anything that has anything to do with satan or devils....I live within 5 miles of jerry Falwell's Liberty University. I also stay away from pirates.....I just dont understand the whole pirate craze!

No blood and guts ....besides the alien I just made, his guts are blue and purple so they dont count lol
I dont do inflatables either, I just dont like them, halloween or christmas I just think they are silly and cheesy.
No hanging bodies, its just easier not to do it rather than risk insulting someone.
I also try to avoid devils and angels. I live in the bible belt and theres a church less than 100 yards from my house.

No gore, just because I don't care for it myself. If I liked the gory stuff, I'd have intestines dripping from the gutters like icicle lights.
No religious references other than maybe crosses in graveyard - I live in the South, it's not worth the hassle and I had a lot of friends into Wicca when I was in college. If I'm not going to insult the Christians, I'm going to give the Witches the same respect. So no ugly old witches and no fire-breathing snake-handling demon preachers.
