...I KNEW there was a great reason to love the elementary school we picked for our kids! Yesterday, there was a letter sent home to parents asking who would volunteer to help organize and decorate for their school's Halloween bash, the first big party of their school year. I WAS ALL OVER THAT. We have twins, so I got two copies...yeah, I signed both of them just in case the teacher misplaces one. Wonder what it will be like?? I mean, I'm thinking we should decorate every hall, classroom, bathroom stall, water fountain, piece of playground equipment, box of crayons...EVERYTHING. Are there any parents here who have done this with their kids' schools? I mean, I'm wondering if we're gonna have the freedom to do themes, or if we're gonna have festive type foods, or if we're gonna do some Halloween games or hayriding......I'M SO EXCITED!!!

I don't have kids, but just wanted to say how lucky you and your kids are for living where normal rational people who enjoy Halloween are!

In the *lovely* area I'm in, they don't allow Halloween at ALL. I used to be a teacher's helper (my mother taught elementary school) and they were FORBIDDEN to do anything for Halloween - no costumes, no party, no decorating of any kind. The religious nuts got most of the school districts to ban Halloween!

Most likely you'll get to decorate the classroom and exterior around it - I wouldn't count on being able to do the bathrooms or extended hallways, but have lots of fun with it!

Yes you are lucky that is allowed in your school district. No Halloween parties here anymore, they only allow Fall Parties, can't have anything to do with Halloween itself. Same reason as stated before, religious differences. And I respect that, but whats next,,,, No Christmas Celebrations.?

I do feel very lucky Frankie's girl, because when you said we live where normal, rational people who enjoy Halloween are, it made me chuckle. I WISH. Our area actually sounds a lot like yours in most respects, this school is a freak accident...

****UGH! FALL FESTIVALS, yep, Endora, that's what you hear most schools doing around here, too...it's that blasted PC'ness rearing it's ugly, festering head again...***

OH You lucky, lucky girl. I only PRAY that one of my kids comes home with one of those forms. I would stroll up in that school like Tim Burton. "Lemme' get more fog over there.....I need more blood on those children over here".........Oh yeah.........that would be SWEET. Congratulations, Laurie.

That's so great Laurie!!! You'll have to keep us updated with the plans and then share pics.

Halloween is still celebrated here, but there are some restrictions at some schools. Happy I grew up when I did, no one cared.

If these schools are restricting Halloween or not even celebrating it I think they need to do the same for that big holiday in the winter...

The school I went to many years ago, banned Halloween of any kind when my little sister started school. Some people are so stupid.

Dangit! I shoulda saved one of those forms just so y'all could see it! How the words 'Halloween party, the school's first big party of the year' looked in it's officially printed, sweet glory....but I was so eager to get myself on the volunteer list that I blew it. I'm usually weird about leaving too much contact info on things too (except for my kids' emergency number info of course), but on this form I was like, 'here's my cell #, my home #, my e-mail, my next-of-kin...y'all WILL be able to get a hold of me!

Most definitely will keep y'all updated with plans and pics, MM...

Too bad you can't come help us out, Tim Burton!

That's so great Laurie and I'm getting a kick out of how excited you are...lol!
I went thru the same thing a few months ago when I found out our town planted a cornfield IN the local cemetery to have a haunted maze this year. I can't believe people haven't raised a fuss over that!
