Default Autumns Approach

Fall is definitely approaching. For the last several mornings as I step outside to go to work I hear the normal morning outdoor sounds most notably the crickets. But I have noticed a subtle difference. These sounds sound the way it always does just before Fall arrives. I have been training to be more aware and mindful the last couple years and tend to notice these things. Also as I was driveing through town I saw a yard that had several dry dead leaves on the ground. Not sure if they fell off the tree as there were'nt any dry leaves on the tree, so might have been left overs possibly from branches downed by the storms which is more logical explanation. But I definitely sense a change in the air signaling Autumns approach and I'm getting very excited.

Dead leaves on the ground here (Richmond, VA). I'm definitely ready for Fall. Favorite season!

I live on a dead end street, and the whole length is lined with huge oak trees and various other types. anyway when the leaves start to fall, on a windy day its like driving through a tunnel of foliage. very cool and a little spooky on a dreary day. but raking all those leaves up is not fun at all! (at least til i set em all on fire!) anyway we've had a ton of rain this summer so everything is still lush and green...(sigh) i prefer the pretty fall leaves.

That would be cool driving through on a cool cloudy Fall day. We have had a ton of rain here too. Someone said they were predicting a late fall for some reason on the news. But like I said I sense that Fall is approaching. It's been cooler than what is typical for summer in our area. Most summers It will be in the 90s & 100s this time of year. We have only had a few days this summer that got into the high 90s or 100s. It's stayed in the 80s most of the summer so we could have an early Fall. Who knows.

I have noticed a change in the trees. New growth has stopped and the old growth is turning dusky.

Yes, it's getting notably darker earlier each evening. I just got back from Yankee Candle with the Harvest scent. Going to burn it tonight, LOVE the "smells" of Fall.

I noticed a couple of trees in my yard that are the first to turn colors have a few red leaves on them!!

Pumkinprincess, I agree about the smells of Fall. When I see the candles in the stores I always have to take a second and smell them!

I think I am actually going to cry... you guys are soooo lucky to feel fall so near to you! I live in FL and it will be HOT and MUGGY until practically Thanksgiving!! I have been putting up Halloween decorations in Oct. and just about faint from heat stroke!

I wish I lived in a place that really felt like autumn!! The smells, leaves falling, cool temps! I envy you, I hope you enjoy it!

We just moved from NC, so I understand how you feel. The leaves never started to change until after November. The kids were wearing shorts to school still.

I grew up in Ohio and it was always a great Halloween when you didn't have to wear your winter coat over your costume.

Now we are in Washington State and I'm happy to be back in a 4 season area. Now we have a house with two fireplaces...and we are sure to have some winter nights ahead to use them!
