I bought 4 ornamental halloween gourd plants 3 of which are growing nicely & starting to show signs of gourds (one i almost drowned but is coming back now ) . I have now idea what they are as yet or what to do with them ! when do i know they are ready to pick - or do they drop off naturally? how do i dry them out & how long does it take? I know they are not edible - & i just wants them as part of my displays. thanks

Pick too soon and they rot too late and they fade is what i hear when its more shell then soft inside is prime to pick check by squeezing.

I grow birdhouse gourds every year. I just leave them on till late fall. They are usually dried out by then. Toetag is right, if you pick them too soon, they will usually rot.
