I went to a haunt last year in NYC - it wasn't huge but there was this one small room that you had to go through and exit the other side. There were mummy-like creatures standing around, so many that there was no way of passing through to the other side without coming into contact with them. There was a strobe light that was disorienting and I was moving through the room, I sensed that the mummies were coming closer to me and eventually surrounded me. Some would lean over and make a ghastly "haaaaaa" sound (like when you're blowing warm breath on a window kinda sound). I had to squeeze between them to get out. Couldn't see their faces - they were all covered up in beige, gauzy material from head to toe. And they were just standing still the whole time, at least so I thought.

In another haunt that I visited, another room had body bags hanging and swinging from the ceilings and you had to go in between them to get to the other side. The body bags were cold and felt like there were actual bodies inside of them.

The coolsest thing I'v sceen was at the end of the haunt, they had this big black wall thing. To get out you had to litterly walk and push your way thorugh this. It was all black and like those really huge puffy matteress pad type things. It was awesome.

Then there was always the guy with the chaine saw at the end.....

Thats the kind of room I was going to post about. I really liked the room because it was very creepy not knowing what might be hiding in their. Some of them even moved and kicked!
    Can you stake my heart?

Howl O Scream At Busch Gardens Tampa had a house that at the beginning it was supposed to been burnt down and was still "simmering." When you walked past all the burned up furniture it looked like embers still burning, done with black light and florescent paint.
It just looked really cool and really stands out in my mind. It might have also helped my impressions that there was a burnt smell.

    Oak Island Entertainment Group

...Sounds just like the Claustrophobia Walls by Oak Island Productions. They had this effect at the Ripley's Haunted Adventure in Myrtle Beach...it was truly creepy cause the room was pitch black and you had to push past the wall which was squeezing you!!

They also had the body bags that moved...

SCarowinds...which is the North/South Carolina Amusement Park, Carowinds transformed into a Haunted Theme Park during the months of late September and October also utilize the "hanging push-past" effect except they do it in a meat locker that you push past huge slabs of meat...REALLY GROSS - I HATE TO TOUCH THEM even though I know they are fake!!

Back after a long absence from the boards....yay!

Last year at Netherworld in Atlanta, GA, they had a room that still creeps me out just thinking about it. It's a small room with white tiled walls with those cheap plastic roaches all over, with a strobe light going to create an illusion of the roaches moving. On top of that, they have a recycling conveyor that drops the same roaches from the ceiling on top of you while you're walking through this room, making you think the roaches are jumping on you. The roaches would drop to the floor, go through the grates, and get picked up on the belt, only to be taken to be dropped again. Add to all of this, and you have a guy in there, lab coat, screaming like mad, with a make-up job that made it look like roaches were eating in and out of his skin. The make-up job itself was creepy enough, but the way he played up agony, you honestly thought he was in pain.

    Genuilly creepy room.

OMG, that sounds like an awesome room!!! It's so nasty that's it good!

One other room that I remember had a wall covered with dolls. There was soft lullaby music playing when suddenly part of the wall ( a man) jumps out and chases everyone out of the room. It was actually funny afterwards because it was some guy dressed all in black with dolls attached to him. I've also seen this effect where the wall was covered in some wild pattern and someone or two people covered with that pattern jump out too.

This isn't really a room effect - more of a technique used by the haunters. I was at Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando and several of my friends and I were entering a haunted house that was supposed to be about a prison riot - guys on the loose, etc, etc.

It was alright through most of it - nothing spectacular - pretty 'normal' for a haunted house. I was the last of my group of 8 and there were a few others behind me. Most of the house was chain-link fence with a few guys on the others side slamming into or scraping stuff across it following you down the narrow path.

We get to a point where there's a split in the path and a huge guy standing at the crossroad (dressed like an inmate). Well, everyone is heading to the right path (the guy is kind of leading people that way) - I figure it's so they can separate the line of people so it's not so crowded. EVERYONE is going to the right - my group and the others. I walk up to the guy and he puts his arm in front of me to stop me. Of course I'm bummed because my friends are all walking ahead of me (not even realizing I'm not there). He points me to the left side of the path. I look at him and say, "Aww, but my friends we-" and he cuts me off and says "Go." and points left.

So, I figure I'm leading the line of people in a new direction. I take about 7 or 8 steps - this side of the path is quite - no music or sound effects, same chainlink fence on both sides, and a bunch of creepy people sitting behind the fence not doing anything - just looking at me. I stop and look behind me to see the line of people... and I'm alone.

I can see the line continue on it's way to the right. So, of course I break into a sweat because I have no idea how long this is and this was way creepier because none of these guys on my side were really doing anything extravagant. The walkway was pretty wide and the 'cells' on the other side ran the length. So for a good 30 foot walk, I walked alone as these inmates walked along with me on the otherside of the fence just staring at me.

ANd that's really all they did - no one jumped out at me or started up a chainsaw. They just stared at me and that creeped me out.

I finally got out and my friends were all standing there waiting for me because they had no clue where I was.

ANyway... that was awesome and completely too longwinded. Sorry.

Good ole Hellgate Prison. I know what you're talking about. They sent my wife and me down the path by ourselves, and it was a genuilly creepy feeling.
