Years ago I made my tombstones by gluing the 3/4" blue insulation together and it is a pain, and you can see the the intersection of the glue joints when you distress the edges of the tombstone. I too would prefer a solid piece of foam.

    Hope this helps,

Oh yay!! You found a place in San Antonio!! Thank You!!
    Can you stake my heart?

Oh good. Blue will work 1 1/2 inches thick also seemed a bit thin to me as well so I bought two and I was going to route a hole on one of the baord and glue PCV pipe and then glue the two sides together. I'm hoping that wood filler will fill in the seam that is left.

We can still get it here in Phoenix, but I think people use it to insulate their garage doors.

You can also try a commercial builders supply and look/ ask for the foam that is used when applying dryvit. It is usually 2" or thicker depending on the required R value. Typical sold by the bag which I think is ten sheets.

Wow, plenty of Houston-area folks here...I am in NW Houston, Cypress.

I would be happy to join any group buy, that we could maybe setup with the supplier listed above...maybe the price would be even better at 20 sheets or something...

Yeah, blue... pink... doesn't matter. Same foam, just different colors. Dow makes it blue, Owens Corning is pink. I've used both and they work equally well.

Personally I like 2" for my gravestones as I tend to go for 18th-19th century style stones. More modern styles, you'd probably want to double up, or make boxes. There are some nice how-tos out there for the latter.

As for those of you down south, yeah, you'll most likely need to go the doubling or box route. Or find a friend up north who's willing to cut it to soze for you, box it up and ship it.

They are a' plenty here, but get this.

I check up on the local Freecycle and someone is giving away, of course, 5'x10'x2" foam sheets...

    ...

    ...

    ... 19 of them!!!!!!

I tried to snatch them up but haven't gotten a response and I'm sure they're taken by now. Holy smokes though - I can't find that size in any home improvement stores. That's like a $500 giveaway.

WOw...must be the area we live in, but just checked our local Lowe's. The 2" foam is only $21.00 a 4' X 8' piece...and thats rounding up! Believe it or not, thats expensive around here. I picked up 3 sheets about a month ago for $17.00 a sheet.

Must be a climate item, I'm thinking.

I've heard good things about freecycle, but I haven't checked into it. I'll have to look again. I can't remember why I said no to it last time.
