Halloween on a Friday? Great, right? Well, not for me! Friday nights mean high school football. My son is a senior this year (marching band) and our last home game is October 31 which will also be senior recognition night. You see where I'm going with this, right? I HAVE to be at that game, no way would I miss it. But I'm also concerned about leaving my usually very elaborately decorated yard unattended on the big night. Maybe I should not even decorate this year? We've gotten the reputation of being THE halloween house so lots of kids will be disappointed but I'm not seeing any other way...

Im so sorry!!! You cant leave them out other wise they will be trashed, but you cant go undecorated. Maybe post something at the door explaining why? Maybe this is a way to totally step up a notch for next year? Either way let us know!

Ah, that's quite a conundrum. I believe I saw a thread with this same dilemma on another site, and the poor woman, I don't think it ever got resolved.
Personally, seeing it's his senior year and his last home game, I couldn't miss it. Halloween comes ever year. I agree with Gizmomo, don't leave your stuff out, just post a sign at the door. If you know someone who can housesit and pass out candy for you, all the better.
Keep us posted on your decision. Good luck!Get the Bloody Salt Yourself!

Do you have any friends who could housesit for the night?
Maybe they would love to come to your house and give out candy (and watch the house in the process). I sure as hell would love to go to someone's house and hand out candy if theirs was decorated like crazy and alot of kids came.

maybe you could give the kids and their parents a heads up on having a second Halloween night and for your house have a sign telling them that Mme Leota Halloween house will be open on Saturday i am sure kids will love to have to do a second night for Halloween . Maybe do a little extra outside and keep them around for a while since you could be the only house open fro Halloween .
just an idea good luck with your decision

Yes, we always note a lower turnout for Fri/Sat Oct 31's - and especially Fri Nights here in Texas. There tends to be more organized parties and such that kids goto versus midweek when they come in hordes.
DST will still be in effect, so we are planning to see alot of younger kids around 5:30 - 6:30 and then for it to dry up as most head to the local games. We will then hope for a larger force to return on Saturday.
I agree, you can't leave it unattended - but surely one friend/family/neighbor 'gets' what you do and why. I bet they would jump at the chance to stand in for you.

Well I would continue to spook up your yard. The game shoulden't last all night....
I woulden't put a sign on the door or anything because when people see your not home they may try and run off with some of your stuff. Also, no one has to know your not home to still make it a great Halloween for everyone.halloween is a super cool holiday.

Ideally, you can find someone willing to at least pass out candy. If they aren't comfortable overseeing an elaborate yard haunt, you could do a different set-up, by putting things in the windows, etc.
