I just recieved a bunch of really old wigs (AND styrofoam heads too!!)..most of them 100% human hair.
Does anyone have ideas on how to de-tangle them, shampoo and cream rinse didn't work. The real hair ones seem to be really dry and unmanagable. Also...can the real ones be colored??? Thanks!

So you shampooed them and everything? We had this TERRIBLE mess of a wig before and we just shampoed it conditioned it over night and than but a detangle spray in it. It looked really good after. I don't know what else to tell you. The human hair wigs Should be able to dye. It depends what color they are, if they are darker and your dyeing them, I would maybe bleach them first and then put in your dye. What color are you planing to do?

I dont know about the detangleing but Im pretty sure the real hair can be colored.. they use real hair in cosmo. school and they dye it I dont see why a wig would be any different.

This link might help w/ the detangling. It's a costuming site.

I did a google search for "dying wigs," and got some interesting results.

Good luck, and congrats on the haul!

GD...gonna dye them black of course ...they are a medium brown right now and look too much like my mom's hair which makes putting them on a bucky sort of creepy!

Newbiehaunter...I happen to have a couple of those beauty school heads with the same ratty dried out hair. It never occured to me that they are real hair too! Human hair doesn't hold up well over time I guess.

    Thanks for the link Melissa!!!

Than I would just get some normal black hair dye. no need for bleaching. i would personaly do a blue/black. normal black ends up looking brown sometimes.

My Daughter had a few human hair wigs when she was going through Chemo and dyeing it was fine. If it is not human hair, dye does not hold well and heat will fry it more than human hair, just like the plastic that it is.
