I really enjoyed reading this thread......really good comments here. I too have reached the age where whatever people think is the least of my concerns! I do what I want. I too resort right back to Halloween after Christmas & work on some kind of Halloween thing every month. Yes I have gotten much worse since I found this forum & have all of you. ( I love you guys!)
As far as the circle of people I associate with....well closest is the ex- hubby who loves doin this stuff & always has & thank God he builds all my stuff. Next is the recent hubby who really panicked when he saw how many BOXES a Muffy can really collect. My decorations scare him ( especially when we started building the big pillars that are taller than him for our cemetery...Ha!) but he lets me buy whatever I need for materials so I love him for that!
After that is the gals at the beauty shop, quite a little group of southern belles, just love them. Started out kind of rocky but now its common news that I am the halloween lady. So the gal that does my nails tells everyone about my place at halloween, altho last year she did not try to stand in the line that was in front of my house waiting to get in. Still we seem to keep the conversation going all thru the year about projects we are working on. They all knew we won the coffin contest & insisted on seeing the picture. Just a week ago we were telling a regular in there about my halloween antics & she said......" Oh please be sure to leave directions here on how to get to your place so I can bring my grandson!".
Spread the love Baby.....we'll get them all to love Halloween as much as us!!lol
the Muffster
P.S. Just wanted to mention that around Halloween no matter where I am I try to bring up my little haunt & its exciting because everyone I have told about it always wants the address so they can try & come.
The Halloween negative people use their ideas of what religion says .
They don't like us making fun of death and physically playing with what look very much like body parts. ("Our body is a temple")(True.)
Animation of the dead is supposed to be only the realm of the entity called "God", or his designated cronies.
Fear of God and death is also the property of the person (cronie) standing up there on usually Sunday morning reminding us of how flawed we all are, even though we are constructed by the flawless and we are in his image??
So then WE come along and deal in creating fear and dispensing it and mock death and fear of death. We "BAD"!
We definately overstep our mere normal franchise because we have no franchise to do these things! We SO BAD!
The more subtle negative thing , which might actually be at the base of many bad vibes concerning Halloween might be that polite society deems it rude to purposely scare someone.
Yes, it is a risk, they might not like the feeling, they might become phobic concerning black kittens or chainsaws or the dark.
All life is a risk. Take the risk, learn, learn to enjoy what can be enjoyed and allow laughter to follow you everywhere you go. Your laughter too, besides the laughter of others.
To frown all the way through this life, right up to the time they close that lid I cannot believe was ever intended to be the way mankind was supposed to be. Too many numerous wonderfull and positive things happen from the act of laughing to say it's wrong or should be subdued.
Many of those positive things are things that take place in our bodies to make us and keep us more healthy!

Some people just don't understand! But it is their loss. Those are the real weirdos!
Also, as I've mentioned before our Halloweens over here are very small. This of course means that people simply don't share the Halloween Spirit, and certainly don't think about it year long. Shame on them!
Agreed that reading this thread has been very interesting.
I agree with all the other posts. Most people just don't understand what it takes to prepare for such a delightful event. Keep doing what you like, they will all love it in the end.
I have also been told I am worshipping satan, and plenty of people think I am weird, but that's ok. My kids humor me, think my stuff is great, but 24/7?!! Hubby is getting more into it , he always has liked halloween, just is not obsessed, just says, " what the h#ll- you have your hobby and I have mine, do what makes you happy. He's going to help me with a few things too.
But as for the thread, I find it refreshing to come here and be able to talk about halloween anytime day or night, and not be the only one wanting to talk about it!!
I agree with everyone else. I feel so fortunate to have you all to talk to. As for as the whole Christianity/Satan worship thing, I'm up to my neck in it each year. I have a biblical name, attended a private Baptist school for 10 years, my mom teaches Sunday School, and my party is held every year at my parent's house, who (the parents) usually attend church 3 x per week. At last year's party, they conveniently went to the movies (although they won't watch any more than PG rated), came home, the party was still rockin (when they showed, a guest was on the mic singing "why don't we get drunk and screw", and I told them they were just in time for the animal sacrifice I personally have my own beliefs like everyone else, and IMHO, Halloween has NOTHING to do with them. Thanks for always being here for me and for letting me rant a little. BTW, they came out to the party (rather than hiding in their room) and they actually enjoyed it.

Cool. Maybe they will finally get that the point is all about having some fun, not being serious about some "cult".

Our 2008 Haunt Album is up here on HF - hope you enjoy:
I feel the same way! This past weekend I was doing the garage sale thing looking only for items that we could use for halloween. My daughter and I found an old cheese board with a cover, we were saying how great it would look with a rat in it and wow! did we get some weird looks!! At almost every place we stopped, we had to explain ourselves. Some were understanding, even more so when I explained that halloween is my birthday. Still most wouldn't even comment, just blank looks. Oh well....they don't know what their missing!!!
I had a friend down today and he was shown my half a coffin that I had been working on. He called me a weirdo and I had too much time on my hands. I then log onto the forum and my wife says "oh you weirdo, you on that forum again" (in a scottish accent).
What the hell is up with some people!!!!
links hands with SS
they just don't understand us
my family tell me to get a job then I won't be bored - I'M NOT BORED!!!!!!
