I saw this morning, with dismay, that there are 111 days to Halloween. My haunted maze opens on October 1, which means I only have 81 days.
I started preparing on November 1 of last year. So far I have built/aquired/accomplished:
grave grabber prop
Hacked MP3 players for prop sound
Flying Crank Ghost
Alien Face-hugger props
2 talking bucky skulls
1 3-axis skull (got the parts for 3 more)
Fog chiller
several new styrofoam tombstones
6 4' sections of pvc cemetary fence
VSA
Audacity
Sounds like a lot, but I'm less than halfway through with my planned work.
It's a good thing I love doing this stuff.
How far along are you?

Your maze sounds amazing Abunai!
Halloween is hit or miss where I am in England. But since we're moving back to Nova Scotia in the new year, I plan on going completely mental with it next year!

Haven't really been building anything this year. I'm moving to the city into a ground-floor condo in less than a month, and I'm unsure as to whether I'll be able to do anything big Halloween-style. The condo is close (not in, but close) to a bad part of the city - I think. I was thinking of possibly having a Halloween party and inviting friends over, but the place is rather small. 2 bedrooms, small kitchen, small living room - It's college living for me and a buddy.
So should I try decorating for a haunt, or for a party? What do you guys suggest?

Well I have my lists done... lists of props to make, lists of things to buy this year, list of things to do to get ready for our 5th annual party, but I've been quite lazy when it comes to actually doing anything. I have to get motivated before it sneaks up on me!

I have all the energy and enthusiasm I can stand, but the budget always seems to get in the way (stupid electric bill). I have this huge plan in my head, and have only finished about 1/4 of it so far. Here is a partial list of projects that need to finish for the chapel in 88 days:
Finish the pneumatic coffin with corpse
Build funeral scene complete with pews, alter, scene setters, candelabras with candles, etc.
3-Axis preacher
Program preacher, coffin, lighting, and fog to all work in sync automatically.
Stained glass windows
Columns and fences
All lighting
3 different sound systems.......AND THEN SOME!!!!

Well, I've been making a lot of lists (as always) and have now decided on the party theme, written the guestlist, planned the food/recipes, booked the hall, planned the costume and bought the materials to make it, made my special Halloween themed dreadlocks for October aaaaand written a list of any supplies/decorations/props I need to buy/make.
However I still need to make the skirt & veil of my costume, make the blue dreadlocks for my costume, make the invitations, go decoration shopping, make the food, decorate the hall, make the music CDs, compile the Halloween Quiz, make the pinata and buy/carve the pumpkins.
So.. I'd say I'm just moving past the initial planning stage and into the construction phase

I have the complete plan on paper, but have not started to build anything yet.
I've started onto x-ing out items on the shopping list and that's all I've done.

I have a large portion of my materials bought or cannabalized for my crypt and FCG, but need to get started. I FINALLY worked out on paper a workable plan for it (I'm attempting a collapsable crypt that stores flat with minimum effort)
I still need to:
• get a can of new paint (from our living room redo last year) tinted black.
• mix up paint/mortar mix for redoing my columns and repaint them
• build 2-3 new columns
• order or locate column toppers (either pumpkins or skulls - found both, have to decide which ones) and paint them to match columns, then attach
• line up fence correctly between columns and snip the excess wire (got sloppy last year cause I was soooo tired)
• build crypt and assemble FCG
• create 3-6 tombstones (our current stones are all store-bought and some are on their last legs of usefullness.
• get started on party planning!!!
I am actually getting a pretty early start for me. Last year I didn't get going until September, and we had a death in the family in early October that threw off our whole schedule.
