I'm gonna take a shot at growing corn. From what I read the main thing you need is sunshine. Here in S.Fl. theres plenty of that and rain which is another necessity. If anyone out there has tried this please chime in. I enjoy a scary cornfield scene with an an actor dressed as a scarecrow, wainting to scare the fudge out of someone.

I tried corn once and it was a nightmare with pest. You have to grow a fairly large amount for it to pollinate right also.

I don't care if it bears any ears ,does pollination still matter?

I grew up on a farm and you are a little late to be planting.
The corn is supposed to be "Knee high by the 4th of July" as the old saying goes.
If you decide to plant, plant field corn instead of sweet corn as that will grow taller - but you can't eat it (I mean you can, it just doesn't taste very good)- Brad

I read it takes about 90 days from time you plant to maturity. I tried calling a couple of places ,but there were closed. I'll try again after this long weekend.

My grandfather and his dad had corn fields way back in the day. He said it's too much work and not worth it......
Then uncle Jim said it's just time consuming but not hard. I would imagine you'd need to plant way early. Do you have good fertilization where you are? That's a key element. And what's the space you were hoping to work with? (20X20 50X30?)halloween is a super cool holiday.

You needed to start it earlier...it's way too hot in S. Fl to try and get corn going now. Think about doing it next year.
