I went to my local HL last night because the anticipation of merchandise is killing me......Lots of fall stuff, plenty of fall pumpkins and scarecrows which I admit gave me that little rush of adreneline that Halloween would be here soon. Unfortunately when I asked the store manager when Halloween merchandise would go out she told me they got a memo from corporate office that they WOULD NOT be getting Halloween this year. WHAT!??!?!! NO HALLOWEEN? I must have looked like a wounded puppy LOL because she said maybe they would change their mind.
I sincerely hope she was just telling me that to get the "crazy woman asking for Halloween in July" out of the store. To any of you who have Hobby Lobby in your areas could you possibly find out if this is true? Down here in the "bible belt" there are not many like me who live for the Fall/Halloween season and live it all year long.
All however was not lost because I went immediately to Michaels to see if there was anything out yet and to my relief they has half an aisle of Halloween including SpookyTown but no display yet. So to cure my heartache over Hobby Lobby I did a little retail therapy......![]()

Doesn't really surprise me. HL is a Christian based company and donates heavily to many Christian organizations. I would not be surprised if they received pressure from some of the more fundamentalist groups regarding Halloween.
Eh, most of their stuff is too cutesy pie anyway...
BTW, I'm glad to see your post - it makes me want to go watch my favorite halloween movie!

It is true up here in Colorado as well. Last year, in September, I was in there picking up some wedding stuff, and went over to their seasonal aisles and the most had were pumpkins and scarecrows... but they had 10 rows of Christmas.

Hey Spookify - what part of Colorado? I haven't been to our HL in a while but it wouldn't surprise me if they nixed Halloween. I agree, their stuff is not only cutesy but expensive as well. Their 50% off sales usually put the item right where I thought the item should have been in the first place! I wish I had a Michaels close by - nearest is about 35-40 miles away. Nice to 'see' you again Winnie!

Called the one in North GA, they said because of the Christian beliefs the organization is based on that it seemed wrong to sell Halloween merchandise. He said they wouldn't be getting half of what they had last year. Mostly just plates and napkins and candy.

Then I guess I have no reason to shop there anymore.
Having said that, I respect people who honor their beliefs without shoving it down others' throats. Instead of aggressively attacking Halloween, they're simply not going to participate. That's fine. I have found so many treasures at garage sales, thrift stores, flea markets and even some wonderful items given to me by a newly converted Jehovah's Witness co-worker.
Life is good.
