My wife has a friend who's 11 yr old daughter loves horror movies. And likes to be SCARED by them. Guess they just watched Arachniphobia over the weekend and had a ball.

So, I've been tasked with providing a list of PG-13 or less SCARY movies. And horror movies in general. Figured, where else to make sure it's as complete as possible?

So, my brains drawing a blank (on what's rated what) lately:

The Classic Universal Monsters: all of them. (if the kid will tolerate black and white)
    The Ring
    Signs
    Cloverfield
    Psycho (1960)
    Jaws
    The Shining (1980)
Night of the Living Dead (again, black and white)
    The Birds
    The Village
    Lady in the Water
    One Missed Call (American 2008)
    The Messengers
    Poltergeist
    The Monster Squad

Well, any almost teen girl has gotta love 'The Lost Boys', I still do...but wait, it may be rated R....I don't know, I think she could still handle it if she likes scary movies, it's really not that bad.

    Here's a suggestion:

Whether you're a member or not, go to Netflix and click on the "horror" tab. Take a look at all the top 25 movies, movies critics recommend, etc. By laying your cursor over the titles, it should give you the movie's rating

Hocus Pocus is one of my favorites, not scary, but all Halloween.
    IT

If not sure about the rating of a movie look it up on The Internet Movie Database (IMDb)

    Purely and simply evil

Hocus Pocus is PG along with Disney's Haunted Mansion.

Some others I found (not all horror):

    Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!
    Return of the Killer Tomatoes!
    Dreamscape
    Haunted Honeymoon
    The Little Vampire
    Transylvania 6-5000
    Saturday the 14th
    Casper
    The Addams Family
    Addams Family Values
    GhostBusters
    GhostBusters 2
    Spaced Invaders
    The Goonies
    Something Wicked This Way Comes
    Stay Alive
    The Wicker Man

Not out on DVD yet, but saw it with the kids and the little one was a little spooked: "The Spiderwick Chronicles"

I would say Lost Boys. It's rated R but for the life of me I can't figure out why and I've seen this movie maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany times. I was 14 when it came out and I walked my happy butt right into the theater. The only thing I can think was the guy blowing up on the stereo but that wasn't that bad. I'm sure nowadays it would be rated PG-13 if even that.

Someone suggested an American Haunting. If that's the movie, I'm thinking of, I'd skip that one. I don't know if it would be appropriate to explain to an 11 year old girl how the character in the movie was molested by her father. Sorry, but I'm still for trying to keep kids as innocent as long as possible. I can't suggest what I was watching at 11.

Definately expose her to the classics. The Universal Horror movies....ummm some Vincent Price movies.

I can't remember the last time I watched a horror movie that was fun. Sad.
