Is there a theme or story line? What comes before?

What i did before is make the guest think everything is over and they calm down being all releaved. They think their safe and than have someone with a chainsaw go affter them. Works every time.
Can you stake my heart?

Have a "ringer" join the group, maybe even in just the last room or two.
They can say they got seperated from their group, have them act scared, throw a tantrum in the last room, forcing all the bright lights to be turned on to atttempt to placate them.
Then as the other patrons are totally distracted and maybe disgusted with this ringer all the lights go out, pitch-darkness!
Some choice sound effects happen in the dark, a scream, a "splot!" sound, the lights come back on, but dimmly and the difficuly scared patron has no head!
This should "Get Them!""My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

What about having the scare just outside the haunt....?
For example, have a "normal" room with scary things in it as your last room, but nothing creepy or jumpy. So they look at it and think... "this must be the end..." This will build up their confidence, etc... and then right outside the haunted house, have a creepy monster or something peek around the corner or have some kind of setup outside the back door so when they open the door, walk out and the door shuts, they get a big scare.
The reason I say this is because most people, by then, will have lowered their guard and won't be expecting what's next.
Of course, the other suggested ideas thus far are pretty good too. =)

I like the idea of letting the people think that everything is over and getting them one more time, that sounds great!

During the 90 minutes it usually takes to go through my house I do this over and over again, let them calm down, lights are up,"He can't scare us here, it's too well-lit."
"GOTCHA!"
I mystify some of them because some of them can't begin to figure out how I can always be infront of them? (In one situation having a fireman's pole to slide down helps me maintain my lead alot. I need all the help I can get! I'm not a spring chicken anymore!(born 1949!)
Maybe that's my "Ace-in-the-hole"? "Old" is scary, isn't it!"My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"
