When I was just at home depot, I notice they have bundles of surveyor stakes, which are just 4 foot 1X2s that are pointed. 25 for 11.97
so instead of using pvc I could just attach these to the furring strips at the same spots that I would have put PVC. putting the stakes pointy end up of course
Two 1X2X8 furring strips and 12 of the stakes listed above = $8.26 per section
or
Two 1X2X8 furring strips and 12 four foot sections of pvc = $11.98 per section
what should I do?
I will still use rebar and secure either fence section that way.
Thanks
Tina

I would still go with the 1x2's and the PVC...Nice thing about the PVC is you can change the toppers when ever you want. Every person that visits my haunt thinks my fence is real. But alas the decision is your and surely it depends on your budget, either way I'm sure it will turn out well.

I prefer pvc myself. Just like Troy, I had people walking right up to it in daylight thinking it was real. The set-up and disassembly is also ridiculously fast, and storage is easy since it all comes apart into simple bundles.

Again the choice is PVC, easier to erect and store. also, when I first put up my fence one of our neighbors said to her husband that she had wanted a fence just like ours around her garden, not knowing ours was a prop fence, so for realistic effect it has to be PVC

Just did a re-read on your post Tina.
For my fence I went 12" spacing between each post and about 3ft 3in for each post (cutting 10ft length of PVC pipe into 3) That way you only need 7 lengths of pipe (2.33 of the 10ft lengths)
That would bring down the cost for each section somewhat and the effect is just as good
I have a pic in my album showing how my fence looks

i am actually in my workshop right now working on my pvc fence i am using 8ft furring strips cut in half to make a 4ft section (storage and assembly ) and i use pvc for the posts 10ft of 1/2in cut in thirds to make 3 3ft 4in posts i then use a 7/8in bit to drill the holes make sure you clamp the sides so you don't split the wood

it looks great i really would go with the pvc for looks and function"at last, my arm is complete"

i also use pvc..if you used the wood be careful because if a little kid falls on top of the stacks it might make a new prop for you ..good luck Howard

the votes all seem to be going to PVC so that is what I'll do.
Thanks for all the replies.

I'll be going with wood this year then upgrading to PVC next year. I have a stack of scrap wood in the back yard, not to mention I find myself seasonably un-rich at the moment.

Even though PVC might cost a little more, it will definitely last a lot longer in the end.
