Can someone tell me specifically with small words so I understand clearly.
How do you connect the fence sections you make. I've looked at several websites and I clearly understand how to make the fence, and I am planning on using rebar in the ground to slide the fence onto to hold it up, I just don't know how to connect the fence sections. The only thing I could think to do was to butt the to sections right together and let each section end be slid onto it's own piece of rebar |-------||------||-------| like so. Any suggestions?
thanks
Tina

That's exactly how to do it, Tina.

A lot of people will use pillars of some sort to hide the fact the fence is free standing. It makes it look a lot more realistic that way.Last edited by michigal; 05-11-2008 at 06:10 PM. Reason: Added the pillar stuff (forgot the first time)

thanks, that is what I'll do, I think I'll save the pillars for the 2009 year.
Hopefully the fence will deter people from "borrowing items" as well.
Last year I had 4 tombstones stolen and a neighbor had a couple hundred dollars worth of stuff stolen. The neighbor sent out a email to his LDS church saying what had happened and that same night, all of our stuff was returned.
No one admitted it, but I'm sure it was some kid from his church and their parents finally figured out where the kid got all his halloween decorations.

I use little metal connecting plates (available at Menard's where you find the angle irons). Just butt the cross pieces together and attach the plates with wood screws. It allows you to make the cross pieces line up properly even if the ground isn't quite level, and it makes the whole thing stronger and harder to mess with/steal.
In the past I even used electrical tape to connect sections. It worked okay, but was strictly a short-term fix. All the same, nobody ever noticed the tape.

That's all we do, tina, and so far, so good!

We just put 1 1/2 inch PVC pipe in the ground with rebar and attach the fence sections to that with small angle irons.

I slip the end of each section onto rebar, and have picture hangers on the ends of each rail. I use black zip ties to connect each section tightly. Works like a charm. The reason I do this is that repeated use of screws will not work after a couple years. I have considered other options, but have stuck with this one.

This is how I connect my fence sections:
First, my fence sections are 36" high, so I take 2" PVC pipe and cut into 39" lengths.
I then use 1" angle brackets, screw them at the end of the fence sections and screw into the 2" Posts. To finish of the posts, I glue Plastic Xmas balls onto the top of the posts. Once they are painted black they look like round finials.
This is how they look
To achieve the spike effect, I have put the details in a how to which can be found in the tutorials section

RookieSpooker - I love the weathering on your tombstones. Do you use a spray bottle?
