Hubby and I were browsing the isles of Party City and stumbled on a great idea. I spotted 4'x100' rolls of Banquet table covers. It's a thin vinyl that is extremely light weight and comes in tons of different colors and prints. We bought one in solid grey and one in solid black for $12.95 each.

So far, we used some of it to dress up our Pumpkin Rot prop and it worked wonderfully! He's about 9' tall and we barely put a dent in the 100' roll! And since it's vinyl, it will stand up to weather great and it's so light weight that it flows beautifully in the wind.

I just wanted to pass this idea along to you all. You can't beat 100' of drapery for only $12.95. I can think of tons of uses for this stuff.

The most important use off the top of my head will be to use some of it as drop cloths to protect my Peanut's set if we get hit by a bad rain.

I checked Oriental Trading's website (Party City's main supplier), but they didn't have the rolls in Black or Grey. If you don't have a Party City nearby, you could probably phone Oriental Trading and ask if they have it in stock. Their customer service dept is pretty good.

I could see using it for scenery backdrops too - if you had acrylic paints (not too watery) then you could paint on it.

Or hang it from eaves of a house and shred it to blow in the wind.

    Cool repurposing of a product!

You could also use it in lieu of black plastic bags to make the Martha Stewart "witch curtain"... where you cut the plastic bag in 2" strips and pull gently in various places to stretch it out, so it gets a tattered look.

    Great idea, Cassie!

Here is what we used it for on our PumpkinRot/Great Pumpkin character. We're going to use foam rubber underneath to give him more bulk here and there but the plastic table cloth stuff looks great!

We're also going to use it in black on our 9' Reaper figure that we have planned.

    Showing his height...

And then covered in the table cloth material...

Great looking pumpkinrot Cassie7! Do you think the vinyl is thick enough to hold up as "sides" to a square canopy? I am looking for CHEAP sides. I could do tarps, and they would last, but the canopy is 12 x 12, so wouldn't be cheap.. Not sure if I have room for it (campground haunt, not tons of space), but am thinking of a walk thru Dr. Frankensteins lab. Hmm, need to think thsi thru.

    Cassie,
Great looking prop. I love the two little pumpkins down front. PLEASE include them in on all your handy work. Even if the mess is bigger and the time takes you longer. My pumpkins are grown with pumpkins of there own. I had more fun when they were around. I never thought I would say it. But I miss them. I miss them as kids. Thanks for the cost effective idea.

Bethene, this stuff is pretty thin but solid looking. I'm not sure how it would hold up as walls.

Skullie, the little pumpkins belong to our next door neighbor. We borrow them now and again LOL

When ever we're outside working on a project, they come running over to help/watch

You can also get this stuff at Garden Ridge (not sure if there's a price difference) if you don't have a Party City.

I would think that it could work for walls as long as there's no strong wind and no one putting weight on them. Not sure, though.

thanks, Cassie7 and Rikki. I will have to go look at it to see and ccheck it for myself.
Skullie. I can relate to you, I also miss my pumpkins when they were little. I enjoy them now, of course, but I think when we are in the middle of it all, the business of it, we take it for granted.
