I've looked at several yard haunt setups lately and noticed something a little concerning.
Black lights. The true florescent versions (not the crappy fake incandescent ones) are being aimed towards the viewers instead of angled away from them.
Black lights emit UV light. The eye DOES NOT react to UV light - it is possible for someone to get vision problems/burn-in if they stared into the black lights for too long. Sort of the same as if you stared directly into the sun, but without the eye's natural reaction to constrict the pupil to limit the light.
Strangely enough, you can also get a pretty bad sunburn from a black light if you were too near one for too long. Same type of thing about getting sunburned on a cloudy day - it is the UV light doing that. It would probably take a while, but it doesn't hurt to be aware of the issues.
If you have a yard haunt that uses black lights, then try to angle them or camoflauge them from the viewing audience. It is safer, and it will look better.
