    Greetings Haunters,

For those of you who have read the "Coffin Contest" thread I posted there that we have finally gotten started with some of these planned Halloween projects. Thanks to the contest being held we are finally gonna get that coffin built. It took us 3 trips to different Lowe's stores in search of a certain saw blade and we finally found one at a tool shop that has a Goodwill store next to it.

He went shopping for the blade and I ran in the Goodwill cause there was a sign on the front door that read......"1 Wedding Dress per Customer".....now what the heck did that mean?!!!lol

There has been a dilema going on in my house ever since the Collinwood 841 story line was involving a funeral that had a somewhat deranged Bride that lost her fiance to the family Vampires and now was insisting that the bridal party attend the funeral in full wedding attire where they also will be serving a gothic wedding cake to the patrons visitng the casket. The dilema at hand was..... did I want to really take my wedding gown out of that box that it is kept in that preserves it. It was a really huge dress and I'm sure we would never get it into that box again. Its been in there for 25 years.

SO for a couple of years I have looked in the Goodwill stores in search of a wedding dress. I can find them but always at a price that is higher than what I wanted to pay. SO as luck would have it....some lady gave 200 wedding dresses from a business, brand new still in those heavy gown bags that they hang in in the store to the Goodwill. Price range was $50.00 - $200.00 ea..

Now after just spending a chunk of money this last week at Lowes buying stuff for several projects plus the coffin I had to pass on the wedding dress>>>>>but I picked up a few great black dresses for my witches. Still it killed me to pass on that dress.

I went home and slept on it thinking about it all night long and low & behold by the light of dawn I was on my way back up there to get one of those dresses. I really wanted one with sleeves but those were the higher priced ones. The one I picked had a huge satin bow in the back, figured after this halloweens story line I could use this dress to make one of those tombstones with the mourning girl leaning on top of it. (Our Secret: Told Hubby...hey I could use this dress for my halloween scene , leave the tags on it and recoup our $$$$ by selling it on Ebay.....boy he bought that!!!!hahahahha)

The store floors were to dirty to remove the dress from the bag to see it so I did that when I got home and this gown is just lovely. Its a southern bell type design. We are working on PVC frames to make the wedding party & the groom. I have all the bridesmaid dresses from my wedding for this bridal party.

Stuff was bought to work on the "Spell & Potion" room bottles, Dry-loc was bought to make those paper mache rocks that Ghostess made to hide her spotlights and we bought some cases of black spray paint to do another 4 sections of fence. We got all the materials we needed for the coffin contest and also got all the wooden letters to paint & make a sign to attach to our cemetery pillars.

This season we want to give a trick or treat to the parents since we had so many last year. I'm making little coffins and mod pogding them and we will fill them with the gourmet chocolates we make for our business.

Again I would like to thank all the great people on this board that are so full of creative ideas that those of us...like me.....feed off of for inspiration. This board is what really keeps me motivated all thru the year as I await my favorite holiday!!

May the Force Be With You!

    Sounds awesome!

I had a dead bride costume that I made but lost it in a terrible accident (son thought the garbage bag it was in was garbage and took it out to the road!). I want to get another and keep my eye out but apparently all brides are a size 6!

    How much did you pay?

Ishwitch....the prices on these dresses were $50.00 to $200.00 and they are brand new. The higher priced ones were just gorgeous. I bought mine for $50.00 and its a size 8. This week I am going to have the neighbors girl put this dress on so I can take some pics of it so my family in Chicago can see it. I'll post a photo of it in my web site. I'll let you know when its in there. I want to take the photos outside but its been raining everyday so we are waiting for things to dry up.

I was not able to get this dress out of the bag at the store cause the floors were way to dusty in there to let that train on the floor. I picked this dress because it had a huge satin bow in the back and I figured if I get the tombstone made with the mourning girl over the top, the bow would look great. I did not care for the bodice of this dress BUT all the others in the $50.00 range were either strapless or halter top tie. That would not work well with PVC type structure.

Even tho this one has a strap over each shoulder it has a sleeve that is off the shoulder on each side, figured I could cover the PVC with a white sheer shawel of some type. Other than that the gown is just beautiful....its heavy taffetta under neath layered with white netting that gives it enough fullness so you won't need a petticoat slip for fullness and then its got a sheer white nylon over the top layer. The bottom is got 3 strips of satin material around it and 3 small bows in the back.

Not sure I would be able to cover this dress in Monster Mud! lol

PS I would be sick to lose a dress like that in the trash but things like that do happen.

that's too bad ishwitch, I would be upset too! Someday you will find another one!I know what you mean about the small sizes, I go to a 99 cent thrifty store(the clothes that is), and have boughten long prom type dresses, figure for a buck, why not!, and am putting them in a prop clothing stash, and most of them are small. I did find a size 12, that is a very pale lavender satin, I might take that and modifiy it for myself, a bride of frankenstein, if i decide to go in costume, that is.
Muffy, looking forward to seeing a picture of the bridal dress!

muffy, do post a picture of your bride.
my daughter got a dress at goodwill that was listed at $50. for $20. she talked the clerk down. i got one for $25. it was one that had a spot, but she is holding a bouquet so the spot doesn't show.
ishwitch, that is to bad you lost your dress. i hope you weren't to upset at your son, he must have felt terrible. those things unfortunatly happen.

Ishwitch........sometimes when the boys don't listen to us and take the garbage out ..."Its a good thing!".

Sometime ago when we moved into this house and were cleaning & getting rid of stuff, I had big bags of stuff to go to the Goodwill. Years ago when I was a college girl I fell in love with these beautiful red drapes from WARDS....remember when they use to sell those beautiful drapes? I got 2 pairs for my bedroom at that time and boy were they ever expensive. They are the long ones and were like 140" across. Funny....I finally nailed them to the wall cause I could never afford to buy the curtain rods for them. These pairs were the ones that had the linings inside to darken the room. I saved my money forever to buy them.

All these years I drug them around thinking someday I'll be able to use them cause actually they were up for a very short time when they were hanging...another problem was taking them to the cleaners to get them pleated...in those day the cleaners charged by pleats and boy did I have a lot of pleats in 2 pairs of these!

So I get to this house ( and its some 26 yrs later) and thats it....I'm going to let them go even tho they still look brand new. So next Halloween comes around & we start this decorating in the house......and I'm sick cause I need those red drapes for my Vampire Parlor in the dining room that has sliding glass doors and I need the other pair in the living room for my Funeral Parlor. I'm sick that these drapes are gone cause I know what a dramatic effect they would have on these rooms to go with our story line for Halloween.

So I talk to hubby and say are you sure you took those drapes to the Goodwill store? He says yes.
Then the EX comes over and I ask him and he says...well Joe gave them to me to take to the Goodwill but I never took that stuff and low and behold he goes out to an old van we have in the driveway that is still full of junk since we moved in 4yrs ago (HA!) and heres my red drapes!

The moral to this story is>>>>>>Thank God the men in our lives do not always listen to us!!!!
Now I'm still trying to figure out where I'm getting the money for the 2008 season to get these drapes pleated>>>>see some things never change!!

    Hey Muffy,
That is a story that I can relate to!
Maybe you can look around for another dry cleaners, or maybe just get them cleaned and forget the pleats. I think they will look just as good purely because of their size and volume. For that matter, make them dusty with some baby powder and then clean them after the party!
