Last night when I got home I had a package from UPS. I was sitting at the kitchen table when an idea hit me. How to go about setting up something on my front porch that would go off when someone stepped up on my porch. A year long scare. You know the UPS and fed ex guy would crap on them selves if in the middle of April they delivered a box to my house and say something jumped out at them... LOL.. Drop the box and run... I love the idea, now how do I go about implementing something like this... Any ideas?
Thinking about more of a prop than a sound... Remember I need easy projects!

That would be funny, but whatever you go with will have to be something that's not mobile... perhaps something bolted down or extremely heavy. You might upset someone who decides to give it a heave, or worse, someone just takes it.
One thought though, do you really want your UPS or FedEx guy dropping your packages from fright? What if you're delivered something that's breakable, like Gemmy life-size props? Just something to think about if you're serious about this.

We had issues with kids playing ding dong ditch one summer.A simple motion detector set up,a flood lamp and a very loud horn seemed to have ended the fun.Only took once.Same basic idea.
Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

I would say you have to get a video camera that turns on to record the scare, so if you are not home, you can still watch it.
Motion sensor from a flood light or pressure sensitive door mat would set it off.
I like the idea of just having a spooky voice say GO AWAY.
Or maybe have a spider drop down.
But i think having blood dripping on the shoulder and then have them look up and see a dead body would be cool. But you might have the police there later

I agree maybe the blood dripping would be too much...

you rig up a door bell that when they push the button, the lions mouth closes on their finger. [but not hard] their scream is the door bell sound.
have you ever seen the outhouses they have that have a mouse trap in them. they look like banks. once you drop the coin in the trap is snaped and the thing falls apart. how about a bigger version of this where they drop the mail in a slot.
you might want to find out what your local laws are. i worked for the post office and they frowned on cats in the mail box and tricks like this. they had some mail personal get hurt and so i'm not sure but you don't want to get into trouble or have someone get hurt.
