I was reading through the secret reaper thread and I noticed that most people seen to dislike gory , or gross stuff. Does anyone one else bsides me share intreast in gross out haunts? I'm not shure what it is about them but they seem more real too me.

I hate "Boo" haunts, where all they have is kids in masks & bloody shirts jumping out from behind something and yelling to scare you. Hell, I raised 3 boys - I can (and do) get that at home for free! What I love is a good, psychological scare, where your mind keeps saying "It's not real" but your heart tells you otherwise. While a Boo Scare may be more intense (for about 2 seconds), they tend to irritate more than scare. No, give me gore and torture. Build the suspense until absolutely anything (and sometimes NOTHING) makes you scream. That's what "wet kills" are made of!

I don't personally have a problem with the gory stuff, but I tend to decorate pretty conservatively. I don't need the blood and hanging flesh type props to create a haunt. It may be due to the fact that I have a couple younger boys, and I'm not ready to introduce them to that yet...

I personally like decorating rather modestly... but have nothing against the gore.

Right, I agree with you, coal miner...if I am to corrupt my sons just right, I can't give them all out nightmares at 4 & 1/2...but....creepiness is very good.....

I love the gore and gross stuff that makes you gasp. I like the after effect almost as much that makes you ask yourself why you found something like that "cool". However, when I started doing more for our home haunt each year (just started full displays and homemade animatronics, etc, a couple years ago), my wife would only give the OK if I kept it "Disney scary". To her, she could handle the entertainment aspect, but not the all out gore and scarring of children's minds. Not to mention, she didn't want an editorial in the paper about the "satanic neighborhood display" in town.

So far, I've accomplished this with talking pirate skeletons, kicking legs (Scary Terry style), a bottomless pit effect, etc. I have to go a little creepy this year, as we are going with zombies as the main character of the season and party in 2008.

I don't mind the gore too much, but just not in my haunt. I have an annual party and the attendance would probably start to dwindle if I decorated with gore instead of gothic. I think we've done pretty well with the spooky atmosphere without having to resort to gross out scenes. My wife also has a big say on this. She can't watch gross out movies like the more recent versions of Chainsaw Masacre. I don't mind the movies and play some of them during my parties, but I think our friends might be a little shocked if I decorated that way. Besides, the kids are scared enough of the non-gore decorations I have and that's good enough for me.

I can go for the gore stuff, but I prefer not to when setting up the house. I like keeping my set up appropriate for all ages.

I'm also not looking to be in the local news as the house of disgusting decorations.

I like making things that are scary and as my wife likes to say "ugly". But real gory and disgusting I try to avoid. A little gore here and there to spur the imagination, but nothing over the top.

I don't care for the gore in my display either, personally. But that's also because I do a yard haunt only. I want it to appeal to the largest audience possible, and adding gore can turn a lot of people off. However, when I go to haunts, be them private or public, I'll do them all. Gore is entertaining as long as it's done with a great story. I prefer the haunt to have a story that supports the decor (if that makes sense). The worst thing to me is going through a haunt and it's just an attempt to gross you out mindlessly. The best thrills go on in your own mind (IMHO).

I myself prefer for the gore.....some dont care for the gore stuff....some like the cute stuff. There is a happy medium witch a lot of us must find when coming to decoarting.
If your doing a home haunt...find that happy in-between....if a haunted house...go all out...if a party(do accroniding to your quest).
Bottom line...its halloween and a haunt....I say do what YOU like....Gore...Go for it!

So as ur secert reaper gift you will be getting something rather gory....I do hope!

    sorry...random johnny ramble here.
