We went to see it Sunday. I was as excited as a 6 year old on Christmas morning, and it didn't disappoint!
Great stage production - lighting, sets, effects. The creation scene was dramatic, with the table and Dr. Frankenstein rising to the ceiling as in the movie. Songs were good. Mel Brooks doesn't know how to write a love ballad, but otherwise they were funny, typically Brooks with good lyrics. I'd read where Brooks' inspiration was musical from the 20s - 40s, and it was obvious in the style. Roger Bart (Frederick Frankenstein) did a rousing show tune salute to "The Brain" that was a riot. Andrea Martins' (Frau Bleucher) "He vas my Boyfriend" was done in a Marlene Deitrich German Caberet style - which was hilariously contrasted by her Frau Blucher costume and character. She and Christopher Fitzgerald, who played Igor, really made the show, both capturing the spirit of the original movie characters.

That's soo exciting. I read about the play in Newsweek (Mel Brooks interview) and it sounded so great. I just bought a Mel Brooks set of movies at Costco (8 altogether) and with the coupon they were $27.99 TOTAL. It has Young Frankenstine, To Be or not To Be, The Twelve Chairs, Silent Movie, Robin Hood Men in Tights, History of the World Part I, High Anxiety and Blazing Saddles. So if you're a fan you should check it out!!
I'm glad the play is so good, because that can be so tricky going from movie to stage and I love Young Frankenstein. You can't help but laugh every time you watch it. Too bad Peter Boyle's not here for it (RIP).

Where is it playing? I will be in New York later this year and I would LOVE to take my wife to see it.

It's playing in the Hilton theater on 42nd Street. The "Brain Depository" is at the rear entrance on 43rd Street. That's where we met and got pics with Megan Mullally and Shuler Hensley after the show.
Pandora - that's a GREAT deal on the Mel Brooks movie set!
I was suprised how faithful the dialogue was to the movie. The show ran over 2 1/2 hours, so I guess just fitting in the iconic scenes, plus musical and dance numbers kept them from expanding much on the story.

We're going Sep 9th! I reserved 2 mezzanine seats, on the aisle, for $120 each (plus taxes).

Man that sounds so great! I was a young boy when it came out in theaters. I lived about 6 blocks down a dark street from the theater. It was light when i went but dark on my way home. And to top that off we didn't live in a good part of town . I would clean up the two screen theater so i could watch movies for free. I seen Young Frankenstein 8 times that year. I got it on VHS when it came out and now i have it on DVD. And you know what I think i still watch it 8 times each year. I may watch it tonight. Great Post!
