I usually hear, around the week of Halloween, people mad because the wind or storms tore up their display.
Tonight we had a severe wind thunderstorm blow out of nowhere and it blew down my privacy fence...2 sections right at the front where it connects with the gate...didnt do the gate any good either, and several sections are leaning.
This actually happened right before I moved in, these same sections...the hill I'm on has 6" of dirt on rock...solid rock. So the previous tenent just did the best he could with the posts...I have twice had to repair and reinforce, but this time it uprooted all 3 poles, the concrete poured around them...I don't think it can be fixed. not without some kind of heavy equipment to punch holes in the rock to properly set the poles.
The fence is important cause it keeps people out...I have stuff setting out inside....the fence is not impenetrable, but my rep generally keeps it safe.
Grrrr...and I'm close to broke right now...why does S$*# always happen then?
Sorry for the rant...I'm just hacked....

last year i wanted to put my blow molds out in a row. we have a flat roof above the garage. i thought they would look really cute up there all lined along the edge, but figured they might blow down. someone suggested i put some sand in them to hold them. it helped, but not when it got really windy. they got real close to the edge so i had to take them down.

Had the same trouble here in Toledo,Ohio and it's still blowing. At 11pm last night it was 50degrees out. This am when I went out it was 8 degress with a chill factor of 16 below zero. So much for global warming!!!
A BAD DAY ABOVE GROUND IS STILL BETTER THAN A GOOD ONE UNDER...I THINK?!

Yup! Kinda hard to sell people on Global Warming when the temps get that low!
We had that same system go through two nights ago and we had gusts clocked at well above 100mph...no damage thank goodness.
Granamyr- See if you can get some Joist Hangers at Home Depot or where ever to at least temporarily fix until you have the $$$ to fix it right!"I never drink....wine. Well maybe just this once!"

Spookzilla....Colorado, as far as the Mountains are concerned is getting slammed this winter.
But here on the front range...the snow has been more annoying than news worthy.
The wind on the other hand.....if my current fence was not chain link...they too would be damaged!"I never drink....wine. Well maybe just this once!"

i'm from iowa, we got nailed with a blizard. we tried calling my daughter to tell her to not head home, but her boss let her go early thinking she could make it home. she got 1/2 way before she was in it. i was pacing the floor trying to think of other things. when she walked in, we were so relieved. lots of snow, wind, and zero weather. yesterday the blizzard was over, but -3 weather. no damage, just stress. grana, sorry you had the damage, i know $$ can be tough, i hope you come up with a good solution.
