On startup this morning my laptop goes into virus scan mode, I received two virus alerts from my AVG virus scanner.. resulting from halloween websites!
The first is identified as:
skbuy_Skeletons[1].htm
Discovery: Virus Identified Exploit
Date of infection: 1/19/08
Time: 08:12:33
File size: 11.89 kb
Healable: No
Source: Moved object
Status: Infected
the second:
Halloween_yard_decorations[1].htm
Discovery: Virus Identified Exploit
Date of infection: 1/19/08
Time: 08:12:34
File size: 34.59 kb
Healable: No
Source: Moved object
Status: Infected
They are not direct viruses (virii), but are pages written with embedded virus exploits, meaning they set the footprint to allow actual infections of other viruses (virii) .. the one who rings the doorbell, not the actual messenger..
My point?
Make sure your anti-virus definition files are up to date!!
If you dont HAVE an antivirus program,
go here for a FREE one!
It's a sad day when our beloved hobby is dragged back into the real world..

Do you know what site that you visited that has the problem? Too bad your software did not catch it when you visited the site.

Havent figured it out yet... but the url was skbuy_Skeleton.htm...
I didnt catch it right away because I shut down right after I pulled up the page to pack the laptop for travel Wednesyday afternoon, I pulled the HD(XP) to swap it for a HD that had Vista on Thursday. I didnt put the XP drive back in until this morning, so it was actually infected Wednesday. just wasnt in a laptop to discover it.

Thanks, I'm trying to figure out where those pages arrrrrr... I'm believe the skbuy_skeleton.htm infected page is the SkeletonStore, the place thats doing the after-TransWorld sales that Marilynn at ACC was doing before.. The other infected page.. halloween_yard_decorations.htm.. could be anywhere..
I really like AVG, works well, the price is right and PC Mag, PC World and Maximum PC magazines rated it the top of the AV scanner list.. You arrrrr right RR(rrr) AVG finds a lot other paid softwares dont.
