just wanted to hear your oppinions on this subject. Mask or face paint if face paint what kind?
Anyoone out there do any spfx work?

I will always prefer facepaint to a mask and foam latex prosthetics to face paint.
I really like wolfe brothers face paint it's a little pricey but well worth it another brand I love is cinema secerets especially there blood gel. I just did a new makeup job today(just for fun) I used knoxx gelatine, liquid latex ,and cinema secrets face paint it turned out great.

I agree about the foam latex prosthetics....I prefer them to masks. I feel like incorporating parts of your own face just adds a little something, and gives you the ability to make emotional facial expressions. (Not to mention the ability to eat and drink, very important) I have only ever used Ben Nye makeup, because that is what is available to me locally, and I've had good success with that. I bought a witch-face prosthetic from a company called The Scream Team last year, and that was very good quality, and the makeup kit that came with it was outstanding, very smooth application. Here's a link to their site:

Yeah, I would have to say I too prefer sfx make-up and prosthetics to masks - not just for comfort reasons, but I think it really does bring a character to life and add an original slant on it. Lots of people can wear a mask and look the same, but if you build upon your own face, you're going to enhance your own personal features etc. The ability to express yourself through costume and facial gestures, I feel, is very important in a good costume

Plus, as MHooch says, it makes eating and drinking a lot easier, which is extremely important!

Make-up is what we prefer on our hauted trails. The actors say it is too hot in masks and hard to speak or yell

Hey I know those GUYS! Oh wait its me its me...... Hmmmm questions questions , makeup or masks, I prefer the old style captain crunchberry cut out masks I use to make when I was but a wee lil lad growing up in the mean streets of burbank. Ok actually never made a captain crunch mask and i grew up in the not so mean streets of Detroit, Foam Appliances are the way to go hands down over any other style of FX makeup. Silicone is GREAT but a bear to work with and you need Professional training to get it right. as for Face painting, you cannot beat the time and money spent, on taking a wolfeBros advance class.......
I'm the Best at what I do, What I do Isn't very NICE!
