A couple of my good friends have parents that were/are Jehovah's witnesses. Luckily, the apple fell far from the tree, but the bad news is those people are grandparents now telling the same lies to little kids again. It's your birthday, little Bobby! Nuh uh. Gramma says birthdays are for the devil.

We have neighbors like that, too. It's a sad testament to our society that a minority voice can have such a profound affect on what the public really wants. With so many fringe groups trying to get everyone to conform to their world view, you have what we have today... a litigious, bitter , divided country.

THAT was the funniest thing I've read in ages! Should make those people who want to ruin our holiday a little more vigilant in whether or not to pass out pamphlets or candy.
I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass. I'm all out of bubble gum.

I have always had a severe problem with ignorant people who mistake our love for Halloween with some sort of ploy to get people away from God. I believe in God, Jesus, etc. I also believe in having a good time without hurting anyone. I also believe in making little kids happy in this insane society we are living in.

My personal reasoning is this: The surest way to turn young people off on religion is to shove it down their throats and tell them every little thing is evil. I worked with a lady who only let her little girl sing "Jesus Loves Me"; the same little girl was unable to watch any Disney videos or visit the park. Wait until that kid hits college.....

I also have a good friend who's mom got brain-washed into joining the Jehovah's Witnesses. She loved to have religious/historical arguments with me until I informed her she was sadly mistaken about the Black Plague. She insisted it took place in the 1800s until I informed her that if it HAD occured during that time, Europe would still be recovering from the effects. After that, she didn't discuss Yahweh with me anymore. My friend gets ticked off when she comes to babysit and leaves her "watchtowers" lying around.

Halloween is what you make of it, just like Christmas or any other holiday.

That was seriously some funny stuff right there.

My husband's parents belong to The Church of God (whatever that may be) and almost didn't attend our wedding because it was on *gasp* Halloween. They did decide to come at the last minute and sat there stony faced through the entire thing. They also kindly sent my husband a giant packet of information on how he was damning his children to Hell by baptizing them in the Catholic Church since Catholics=EVIL. They don't celebrate any holidays and are homemade track hander-outers on Halloween. They are also the most racist, sexist, every other ist you can think of, miserable, hate-filled people I have ever met. Talk about scary.

ROTFL!! Pagan! Yes! I forgot that one! The last time I saw them was at a wedding a few months ago and when my husband's father started rambling on about the Pope being a drug dealer, the Holocaust being a big fat lie and something about Easter eggs and pagan fertility rituals, it was time to back away from the crazy.........and belly up to the bar. Loons!!

That's what I'm talking about. My neighbor's kids run around the block telling people they are damned if they celebrate the devil's day. Then they proceed to vandalize anyone's decorations that are put up. I also am Catholic, and hear it all the time. I know people have the right to live the way they feel is right, I just wish they would recognize mine to do the same! No wonder alot of Catholics drink.......

    That's darn funny.

30+ years ago, when I last went TOT'ing, there was a new woman in the neighborhood who handed us a cheap 1 cent lollipop (everyone else gave out full sized candy bars) and accompanied it with a pamphlet on "eternal salvation". Yes, a Jehovah's witness. The next year her house, yard, and car were covered in toilet paper on mischief night. I doubt she got any visitors on Halloween, either, given that virtually every kid in the neighborhood showed up with a roll of toilet paper the previous night. LOL

It never ceases to amaze me that in this day and age, people still equate Halloween with satanic practices. It also makes me crazy when born-again Christians decided they are holier than the rest of us and must make sure we all see the error of our ways.

I wear a silver ring with an ankh on it, the ancient symbol for life. I actually had some loon tell me that my Lord and Christ does not wish me to adorn my body with satanic symbols. I informed him that the symbol not only stood for life (isn't Jesus all about life?), but it pre-dated Christianity (and the idea of a devil) by a few centuries. He did the equivalent of sticking his fingers in his ears and going "la la la".

I have noticed that when these people are confronted with logic and fact, they tend to talk louder...not smarter...just louder.
