Hello all
1st post---been lurking a couple months now and love the site. Everyone seems friendly and helpful here.
Anyway, just wanted to know what the majority does here for their home haunt---is your haunt entirely outside, or do some of you set-up in your home and allow walk-thru's?
I've only been in my home for 3 yrs and have decorated each Halloween, but each year was all outside. I was thinking of having an escorted walk-thru next year with an asylum theme. My home is pretty empty (single guy doesn't need much furniture) and I'm sure I'll be getting some help for the haunt, so I wanted to see what did/didn't work from those that did walk-thru's.

We do our garage, but not as a walk thru - its set up as a display for viewing from the garage entrance. Others have mentioned liability concerns when talking about private walk-throughs.

We decorate inside but not for a walkthru. We decorated the outside. we did the same as ChrisW, only set up the garage as a display from the entrance. I'd love to do a walkthru.

I decorate inside and out because we have a party and a backyard haunt. The kids walkthrough the yard but not the house.

For the most part we just decorate our carport, and have the kids walk in to get their treats. We were thinking about putting up a canopy in the driveway attached to the carport. This way we get more room to decorate and it's still outside the house.
As darkness falls, the path ahead becomes veiled in gloom. A jack-o-lantern shines through the night. It's horrible visage serves two fold. To keep wickedness at bay, and remind travelers their fate, if they wander off the path.

Ours is strictly an outdoor set up with front yard display and a walk through that takes in the length of our driveway, covered patio, garage and back yard. I think the vast majority of folks would strongly advise against having people come into your house, for a number of reasons.

I'm paranoid about anyone hurting themselves and the insurance liability (and things getting broken), so I don't think I'd ever do a haunt on the inside of the house.
We set up outside, and decorate inside for a Halloween party for friends, but the big stuff is reserved for the fenced-off graveyard haunt.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

A lifelong friend of mine is our insurance agent, and he comes to our party. I think he'd drop our policy in a minute if we let strangers amble thru the house or did much more than let kids walk up on the concrete walk.
That being said, I'm leaning toward doing something in my garage in the future. I would love to be able to work on something in private for a long time, and out of the weather. Problem is, we only have a 2.5 car garage. Seems kinda tight for much stuff.

I do a garage haunt and have been doing so since, really 2003. In 2004, we expanded to our patio. In 2006, we added another scene along side of the garage. I have a single car garage, and I tell you it is small, but we make a maze through the garage and we make it work. After ppl see the size of the garage they are amazed how small it really is. Size doesn't matter, it is what you do with it.

I usually only do as many have mentioned here previously. Outside display with the garage setup as a come to the garage door and be scared kinda thing. I had thought about doing a walk through the garage, into the house and out the back door, with everything but the walkway and a couple "scary rooms" sealed off. But my better judgment has prevailed.
And to the guy who says he "only" has a 2 1/2 car garage. Man I would love to have that much space. My garage display is limited due to the fact that I have a 1 car garage, and it's been chopped down to accomodate a laundry room behind it...
