What was the best thing you heard from your fans this year?
I was feeling sorry for myself on Saturday morning, starting to take down the decorations, when a car pulled up at the curb. The rear window rolled down and two little heads popped up yelling out "Noooo!!!!" I smiled for hours.

My favorites were neighbors driving by and telling me that they were glad I was setting up the display again this year, and one that my wife overheard as she was walking around with my 12 yr old when a mom asked her daughter if she wanted to go get goodies at my house: "No, Mommy, that's the SCARY house!" Warmed my heart...

I only let one TOTer at a time into the 'treasure room' where they spin for their treat. I love the reaction of that 'next' kid in line when the first TOT walks out with a giant stuffed animal or something.
When one TOTer walked out with a half pound Hershey's bar, Next Kid asked, "Did'ja get a candy bar?"
First Kid beamed, "No...I got a GIANT candy bar!"
That just tickled the heck out of me!

I had a neighbor who I had never spoken to before stop her car as DH and I were setting up to tell us that there should be a prize for best Halloween decor in our neighborhood because we deserved it! She went on to say that her kids couldn't wait to TOT the "spooky house."
We also overheard two 10 year old boys: "This is the best house on the block." "No, this is the best house in our neighborhood!"
Stuff like that just makes the backaches and expense worth it.

My favorite was from a little TOTer dressed as a princess who stared at me from behind her dad's legs for about 10 minutes before gathering up the nerve to come close enough to nervously ask me if I was a real vampire (my white contact lenses were REALLY freaking people out). For a split second I was tempted to say "Yessssss.....and I'll be visiting you later." but she was too cute to scar for life so I just said "Nah. Only on Halloween!"

Hard to choose which I thought was the best comment but A couple of pre teen boys saying that ours was the best house ever made me and the wife feel good. Also having the neighbors stopping and saying how great the yard looked ... Did have a drive by and someone called out "you've done an awesome job" ... not even sure if I knew them!

I had a van of adults park in front of my house while their rather "large" boy dressed in one of those big boxy spongebob costumes was struggling to go from house to house. They were giggling their heads off at the reaction the boy was going to have when he came up my drive so I watched him close. He kind of gasped and nearly fell backwards but started flailing his arms and caught himself then ran to the van. I thought he was gonna fall flat on his back and not be able to get back up like a turtle...LOL!

I had a lot of nice responses, but the one that really hit me came from my wife the following Friday. I don't remember it word for word, but I do know it was the best ego-rub I've had in along time... needless to say, she believes in my abilities a lot more than I do sometimes, and it was nice as well as eye-opening...

It's hard to choose a favorite:
-The lady who lives down the hall who said, "Oh--it's really eerie and creepy."
-The other tenants in my buliding thanking me for putting it up (my landlord as well).
-The lady who nearly jumped out of her socks and said "Oh my god! I thought you were a part of the display!" (I creeped up behind her bit by bit as she looked at some of the tombstones--she took two long looks at me early on, in between which I had moved about three feet closer to her. The next time she turned around I was right behind her. Heh, heh.)
-The two boys who, when their mother said it was time to go, said, "Nooo! We want to stay! He's telling us all about all the people in the graves! And there's PIRATES in those ones over there!" (And as they were leaving, after I told them the gargoyles were alive and could sometimes be heard whispering on dark, quiet nights, one said, "I saw that one's wings move!" and the other said, "I just heard that one whispering!")
There were more, but those were my favorites. What a GREAT holiday!!!
