    YouTube - 2007

The video camera really didn't like the lighting, so none of the fog shows up, and I had to brighten it up a bunch which leaves it grainy. And it was taken well after 9PM when we turned the music down to let the kids get some sleep, so I had to overlay a song from our soundtrack onto it....but, it gives you a good idea what things were like.

The good pics will be getting up when I get a chance.

My brother did the sound system. Since he owns a business specifically in business of sound systems. So, it's too bad you couldn't hear what it was really like.

Kids would get through the yard, and past me just fine, about half way back towards the gazebo where the candy (and speakers) were, they'ld lose nerve and flee out to their parents who would then come guide them in.

One little girl, about 8, I was in the gazebo refilling the bowl when they came back, and she had her dad's hand. Not knowing she was there, I turned from refilling the bowl and stepped out of that curtain on the gazebo...she flung her candy bowl at me, wrenched free of her dad's hand and ran screaming to her mom. Once she was calmed down, got a good look at me, and I gave her a light stick, she was quite happy with everyhing though. The whole thing is on video and they've promised me a copy. We'll see.

    Finally getting pics uploaded.

The 30th on all these. Rainy, windy, crappy night.

Across the street, fire reflecting off the wet pavement.

The big scarecrow in the front my kids have renamed "Jack Jackula"...

Can't tell, but there was a bunch of bones hanging from it. They just didn't reflect the light as well as I'd hoped.

    The field of skulls.

    The back.

The "flaming poles" are nothing but Tiki brand torches. These are on sale most anywhere, but Target being my preferred place. Target sells them in 4 packs. And, if you wait till end of August/first of September, those 4 packs go on sell for $5 or less.

I have 30 of em, and it takes roughly 4 gallons of oil every year.

The skulls were made following this general guide: http://wolfstone.halloweenhost.com/C...terSkulls.html

I have a few modifications to that after 120+ being made, most notably a precise quantity of everything needed, purposely breaking the first coat, precise drying times, and a completely different coloring methodology.

And, with the hollow skulls, I filled them with Great Stuff foam, then drilled holes in them. The foam holds em in place on the poles.

Looks amazing, and I don't mean to be a party pooper, but is there any safety concerns with real flames and TOT's in the same vicinity?

    Aye, there is.

In years past, the torches have been behind a rope fence. With no fence this year, we put them in the center of little clusters of skull stakes, as you can see in one of the closeups of one such cluster, where no one would be touching, and no costumes accidentally getting in the way. We keep the walking paths quit wide as well, as I have a number of wheel-chair using TOTs.

That said, I did have to holler at a few teenagers who were trying to get in to play with flames on 2 occasions.

    Gotcha. It's a great effect.

I have a few citronella torches that I thought of using, but with my house & setup I don't think I could properly cordon off an area.

Makes me wonder in the old days when the angry villagers had torches in hand to 'Burn Frankenstein", if there was anyone from the village 'health and safety" committee present ?

Oooooh! SUPER scary! You did a tremendous job! Love the skull stakes...but please get that fence back up next year. It only takes one idiot teenage in a flammable costume...
