My husband and I will be moving to western N.C. next year. We will be around the Waynesville/Maggie Valley area. I was just wondering if anyone knows how well-received Halloween is in that area. We've never been there during that time of year. If anyone lives there (or knows anyone who lives there), I would really appreciate the information.
I also would like to do a charity haunted house once I am there. I know it's a huge undertaking, but it will definitely be a labor of love on my part and I think it will help our family become part of the community out there.........
Unless, of course, they see us as some sort of freaks and burn us at the stake....but that's a bridge I'll cross later.....lol

Apparently, we're going to be very lonely come Halloween time....but I'm sure we can change that with a few well-placed props....

We're moving to central NC (just south of Greensboro) in the spring. Preliminary scouting reports are very positive. A very receptive area. Good Luck!
I don't want to just scare them... I want to mess them up for life!

We may be moving to Coastal NC in the coming months. Hopefully it will work out.

I live near Charlotte, NC but have been visiting the mountains of western NC since I was a kid. From what I've seen, I would say Halloween is well received. I probably see more "Fall" type displays--scarecrows, pumpkins, hay bales, corn stalks--than actual "creepy" type displays, but I'm usually not there on Halloween day. Also I occasionally see corn maze/haunted trail signs in the area. I was in Cherokee on Halloween several years ago and the employees at a restaurant we went to were dressed in costumes.
Most of the towns in western NC are pretty small, so it probably depends on what that region is accustomed to doing. I don't think you would have any problems, though.
