Hey, I have been home haunting for 4 years now, and really would like to eventually go pro. I'm only 16 so I don't know what I can do when I am underage. I go to las Vegas academy and I am thinking I can get the technical theater department into it. Anyway any tips or info on doing pro haunts is greatly appreciated.

    thanks,

    Eric

Next August, call the Freakling Brothers' hotline & apply for a job with them. They will even move you up in the ranks, if you're good.

In the mean time, buy a copy of "How to Operate a Financially Successful Haunted House" (or something like that). It's really geared toward the small to medium haunt, like fund-raisers, but it will get you started.

    That'll be $2.00

Thanks, Yea I went to the mortuary and my mom started talking to the manager. So I got to go in for a tour. They pay actors 6 dollars an hour! Next year, is there last year doing the mortuary, and they will be building an entire new haunt in the place of it. So I'm going to maybe act for them then hopefully help them build the new haunt.

I would suggest getting a subscription to Haunted Attraction magazine.
There are articles on Pro haunts all over the country. "How to" build props articles, etc. Also if you could attend a Haunt convention that would help too. Would help you to network with people in the business.

Take my advice as a 17 year old...soon to be 18 on Thursday!...

I too have been haunting since I was very young and always wanted to own a haunted attraction...it is very do-able - I did this year!!!

This past summer, I went to Universal Studios and went to their Horror Make-up show. I hung around after the show to talk with the actors and they gave me numbers to people in Florida. That is the first step - MAKE CONNECTIONS!!!

These past few years I have been watching every Halloween Attraction special on Travel Channel and visiting haunts to get ideas for myself...

I write down everything - EVERY LITTLE IDEA!!! (I now have folders and notebooks of haunted house concepts, room ideas, characters, and event information) I have the "How to Operate a Financially Successful Haunted House" and it is pretty helpful...I ordered the entire kit from http://www.hauntideakit.com/

I then volunteered for a haunted house this past year. I went to meetings and helped construct rooms - using all the ideas I had. I ended up walking away with a position on the Council at the end of this season and will be returning next year to help with all new haunt concepts!!!

While volunteering at the haunted house, I met an Engineer and we worked together to help some of my ideas become a reality and we will be starting new projects for next year in the coming month or so....ONCE AGAIN - MAKING CONNECTIONS!!!!

There is so much more information...the internet is an outstanding resource...E-mail me if you have any more questions!!!

I started back in 1982 when I was 15 with a Charity Haunt.....you will end up with connections like crazy once you start....but do not get scared off by the $$$$ you might have to spend to start your own Haunt....Study fire codes and safty codes until they engraved in your skull, because the Fire Marshall can be the instant death of all your hard work.
Do not expect any real profits until your 3rd year of opperations.
Plus...under no circunstances DO NOT REST ON YOUR LAURELS!!!!

Take this from experience...do not make the same mistakes I did!
