Hey Folks,
First time poster here, long time lurker! Great forum this is, glad I found it, I am!
Ok, enough Yoda talk for now...Basically, when I was a kid, the houses I loved going to the most were the ones that scared me, or you didnt know what to expect.
I want to do that for kids, so last year I had this string/pully system to open the door automatically,t hen ide jump out from the side with my mask on, kids liked it...
Question is this: I am planning on pretending to be a stuffed "monster" sitting on a chair with a big bowl of candy on my lap and a sign, and move, possibly scare the kiddies...is that a bit much? My GF seems to think so, so I figured ide ask you all, halloween Gurus.
Cheers.

DO IT.
The kids will remember it forever. In fact, stuff your costume TODAY and put it out so they get used to seeing it. Then when you are really in it tomorrow they won't suspect a thing.

I would say that is not too much, but you might want to gauge your actions based on the age of the TOTers that show up.

Nope, not a problem and I remember fondly those type of houses even now.

If you get really little ones, just be prepared to remove the mask and show them that it's a person under there.
Like Push Eject said, it would be even better if you'd had a stuffed dummy wearing your costume outside for the last couple of weeks. The kids get used to seeing the dummy, and gets a bigger reaction when that prop MOVES Halloween night.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

We had a guy on here last year pulled the "stuffed monster on the porch" routine. Some of the video he shot was hilarious. You kept hearing these conversations, "Is he real?"..."That's not real".... "Holy sh**"
Just make sure there are no trip hazards around. You will likely get some runners.

I got a video this week of a guy doing that.... He was sitting on his porch, all dressed up, and he was scaring people who were walking up the stairs.... Some guy just reacted and punched him in the face... Just be careful!!

I think it would be great. My oldest son always dressed up in some kind of spooky costume and stood very still in our graveyard, so kids wouldn't know if he was a prop or not, when the kids came by he would scare them by moving slowly toward them or if they were older jump at them. Last year he went to college and was unable to be here for Halloween. Needless to say all I heard all night was "where is that scary guy?".
He is coming home for Halloween this year!

Definitely do it! I also agree with Push Eject, stuff it today so kids are used to seeing it there before the "big night"!
