On one hand, I want to stay cheap and go with a miniDV. On the other hand, I want a HDD camera.
Boiled it down between a Panasonic or Sony MiniDV or a JVC HDD.
Anybody bought one recently that they recommend?
(I have read consumer reports and reviews on retail sites, CNET, etc... but your opinion still counts!)

Those are a bit out of my price range.
Panasonic SDR-H18 is the one I am leaning toward. Possibly the SDR-H200.

I have an Canon Elura 40 mc Mini DV, and a new Canon DC100 DVD which I really love AND GOT FOR ONLY $ 225, the DVD's are just so easy for playback and making copies, a lot less hassle than a mini DV, I like them both but the DVD really is so easy to share with others. We had our TOT's last night so I got lots of great footage on both, we had a pack house for 2hrs. for our maze, gonna load some pics later.

I got the SDR-H18.
Amazon.com is freaking amazing. I ordered it LAST NIGHT and I got it this morning.
I am going to play with it some and hopefully have a vid and photos to share.

right before halloween last year I got the sonydcr-sr100 hard disk drive, I love it. Records in widescreen with 5.1 channel surround sound, the surround sound recording is great, if you record outside and then play back you can hear the birds chirrping in the woods behind you and soforth.

Way to go. I'm due for a cam too, but I will only buy a hard drive cam. NO more media for me, be it tape, memory sticks, or dvd. Straigh to pc for editing and distribution. Beautiful thing.
