...and it's not even done yet.

I'm making decent progress at last (really, procrastination is a disability, like, uh, laziness is!) --on my little haunt at my apartment building. The pillars are done and the fence is almost there. I'd be getting more done if I didn't keep stepping back and looking at it.

I've had people walk right up to the fence before they realized it isn't really made of iron, and several people were amazed to discover that the pillars are made of extruded foam. Lots of compliments for a haunt that's really pretty understated--just a cemetery with some nice gargoyles at the gate, really. The other residents in my building are pleased with it so far, too.

Inevitably, somebody had to express their moral disapproval of my project. A bypasser referred to it as "satanic." I said "Why, thank you! That's just the effect I'm going for!" (Gee--it was just a graveyard. Wait 'til she sees the stuff I haven't put out yet!!! (Heh, heh...)

    Satanic

Gargoyles are so misunderstood. They were used on churches for crying out loud!

I had some property managers repeatedly asked me to remove a 3 foot gargoyle yard ornament from my balcony for the same reason. I refused. I was also the only tenant to plant flowers on the 10" "fake" balcony as well.

Are you going to put up any pictures? I'd love to see what you are doing at your apartment.

I don't even own a camera, but several people from my building want to take photos (and somebody passing by took some while I was working on the fence yesterday--and there wasn't much to see yet.) I've told 'em to wait 'til the clock runs out on me on Wednesday and there's a little more to look at.

Like I said, it's understated. Nothing fancy--just a creepy little graveyard. No animatronics, no fog machines, no sound effects (my building is pretty old and there are no outside electrical outlets to power anything.) Just kind of "dark and eerie and creepy" as one of my neighbors said (as a compliment.)

I'll try to get some pictures on Wednesday and then figure out how to post 'em. The REALLY evil-looking gargoyle will on display then.

I had the same reaction to my fence ... one of the neighbors asked where I got my fence from as they had wanted a wrought iron fence too ! ... they were amazed how realistic it looked. So far I have not had any complaints about my graveyard, just some great feedback. Hope your haunt goes well and you have a great halloween

That's a good response. I just look at the haters as more fuel for my fire!
