I just read this in our local paper. At least one Maryland politician gets it. Of course, it's the banning of Halloween events that inspired him to propose the resolution...

ANNAPOLIS, Md.- One Anne Arundel County councilman says it's ridiculous that Halloween parties aren't occurring in county schools.

So Councilman Ed Middlebrooks proposed a resolution asking schools to allow students to experience a "small but enjoyable diversion from the academic rigors of a single school day." It says children should be allowed to be children, wear costumes and have Halloween parties at school.

Middlebrooks said he wanted his three children to look back and have fond memories just as he does. The resolution passed unanimously.

School Board President Tricia Johnson said there is no system policy on holiday celebrations. She said it's up to the principal, the parents and sometimes the parent teacher association.

Around here I heard the whole stopping of the halloween parties was due to peanut allergies. How in the world could these people NOT figure out a way to get around this problem is beyond me. They just want an easy way out and not be sued I guess!

At my son's high school, we still manage to sneak in a bit of Halloween every year. The friday before Halloween (tomorrow!) is declared "black-out day" and everyone is encouraged to wear black. At the pep rally, the only lights will be black lights. The cheerleaders will be drressed as zombies and do a routine to "Thriller" or something like it, as will the drill team. The band will have glowsticks on their instruments and play things like "Iron Man".
It's pretty cool. The kids look forward to it every year. Gotta keep it alive wherever you can!

That is one way to work around the system. That is a sneaky/awesome way to sneak in some Halloween. I bet it is awesome to see the pep game

ChrisW that's so cool! Wish more would step up and do the sensible thing and let it be the fun time for kids that it's supposed to be.

(And MadameLeota your sons are very lucky!)
