How long does the pumpkin last after carving it? I was thinking of waiting for this weekend because I carved one last week and I have to throw it out today. I just want a couple out there for Halloween night.

I'm from GA and now live in TX. We can't cut ours until 2 or 3 days before.

I normally wait until a day or two before Halloween. It's often the last thing I do to get ready and I can just sit and take my time with the designs (and a cold beer). We normally carve out 6-8 jacks so it takes up a whole evening.

Yeah i'd say 3-4 days max as long as the weather is cold like fall should be.

But this year it's quite a bit warmer, and even uncarved i've noticed my pumpkins are not as firm as normal.

My annual party is the 27th, as most appear to be this year, so i'll have to carve them friday (no time saturday with the amount i have to do and with work that day and setting everything up) so hopefully they'll keep.

I bought a couple of the fake carvable pumpkins this year to try them out. we'll also put a few real ones out as well. the real ones wil go out 2-3 days before the big day...

Ive read that WD40 sprayed on them after cutting slows down the rotting process...

We like to carve a week or so before, but it's been so warm, we'll probably wait 'til this weekend.

I've heard various things to preserve carved pumpkins as well: salt & a light coating of oil on the cut parts, hairspray (not sprayed when lit!), or lemon juice. Might have to try them this year.
