I decided this year to make a small fence to partially enclose my humble graveyard. I used furring strips and wooden stakes. I used drywall power screws, and noticed, after making the first section, that the screws were too long. Since it doesn't have to be pretty, I was going to leave it that way. But then I decided that I should fix the screws for safety. Drywall screws are very sharp, and I was concerned that the kids could cut or puncture their fingers on them. I don't want the little ones to get hurt and also don't want to end up in court. Before I could set up the fence, I had to grind off the tips of all of the screws with a Dremel.
I have only started elaborating my decorations this year. This has been a concern ever since. Any experience with kids or others getting hurt on props or decorations? What were the consequences.

Never had someone hurt, fortunately.
Have had people trip over their own costumes on my yard before, but none have ever gotten hurt.
I've been sued for saving some assholes live before, but that was unrelated to Halloween. (he tried to make his own fireworks on the 4th, then sued me for him losing the leg, since I was first on the scene. Long story, but it got thrown out)
My best suggestion is to have a clear path for them to be on. If they go off path, they are at least partially at fault for being where they're not supposed to.

I'm one of those people that worries over this sort of stuff... DH says waaaay too much.

We have a sidewalk up to our front door, and I just make sure that it's clear of debris, cords, and anything that could possibly cause a problem.
We still had a woman pushing a stroller dislodge one of the stones that line our sidewalk, but no one tripped or anything. Those things are buried in the ground, so she must have really pushed hard to uproot one!
We added a fence and columns this year to our cemetary, but I built the columns out of cardboard and foam (cost me less than $10!) so there are no sharp edges or pointy stuff, but I'm still going to worry!
OMG, UnOrthodOx that's horrible! Never mind that the idiot actually hurt himself so badly as to loose a limb, (which must have been tramatic for anyone that saw it too) but to try to sue the person who was coming to his aid... wow.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

I haven't had anyone hurt either but worry about those plastic finials from Decorative Iron that I have on my fence. They are seriously sharp!!!!!
At least they are up high enough so no kid will actually fall on them.

I have never had a guest get hurt, but every year I get hurt by the guests.
Build it and they will come.

I enjoy any kind of Halloween decorations including those depicting mayhem and the macabre. In reality, I couldn't hurt anyone for the world. I would rather hurt myself than to be responsible for injuring someone else. This is supposed to be fun.

Thankfully nobody's been hurt by any of our decor - scared maybe, but never hurt!

No one hurt here. One year we had a kid get so scared he nearly ran out into the street. Luckily Hubby was there to stop him. Since then we park our cars bumper to bumper in front of the driveway and always have someone at the end of the driveway to stop anyone from becoming road kill.
