I went through some of the the old threads last night about theft of props and what people do to deter it. I too, do not put out the most expensive stuff until Halloween night but would like to leave my cemetery out from now until then.
I am going to buy a security system tomorrow. Any suggestions on a good one? I'd like to spend less than $150, if possible.
Thanks for all input.

Allelectronics has several surveillance cameras at good prices. Problem is, you would have to order it and more than likely would not get it until after Halloween. Sorry.
Maybe Radio Shack?

How important is "night vision" for these things?

can't speak to quality of video or anything, but that looks like quite the deal right now...

I would also like to point out a couple of things things about security cameras. In order to deter crime the cameras need to be in a visible location, not yet not easily accessible to prevent the theft or damage of the camera. In order to use the footage to track down the person causing the problem you would also need a way to record the video. Unless you plan on hooking this up to your computer using a time-lapse video capture program you will need security Video recorder or a Surveillance DVR. These start at about $140 plus the cost of tapes or hard drives. A cheaper solutions might be to get one of the Radio Shack $20 fake cameras: http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...entPage=search They have a blinking light and more than likely would deter most kids if placed in the right locations. For the price you can afford to buy a couple.
Unless you plan to use this year round and get a recorder to use as added security to your house, I would say get a couple of the dummy ones. It will keep opportunistic theft and mayhem at bay (which is the most common type of theft and vandalism), but neither real or dummy cameras will probably stop malicious theft.

We actually thought about getting the dummies but there has been a huge wave of theft in our area (and we live in a really good neighborhood!). Since this all started about a month ago, the thieves are now taking everything from gas cans and weedeaters to motorcycles and 4-wheelers.
Also it's Homecoming and the teenagers around here love to vandalize. (Small town mentality, I like to call it.)
Maybe a year-round "real" camera would be the best thing."Scare me once, shame on you. Scare me twice ... you'd better run like hell."

A few years ago I bought from Home Depo a kit that had a motion detector for outside. This turned on a two headed spot light. At the same time it would turn on a lamp in the house and sound a small alarm in the house. It was very easy to set up and has worked great. If you go with a camera get the nite vision with out it you will not see anything at night. X10.com is a good site. Also Costco has a camera kit that is nice. My parents say it works great.

The Stealth Cam –

this one cost me $ 99, works good except the low light L.E.D.s are worthless, they don't help in the least once light falls, heck I don't think they even fire up but the company swears they are not visisble to the eye ?!?! Whatever they are useless, we put the cam on Drake prop to watch it and use the mic to talk to folks and hear their response. The audio mic is very strong , you can hear a fly land on the cam.http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...7/IMG_0232.jpg
