Man, what a night. It was a beautiful cloudy mild night here in Illinois and at 7:00 our local haunted hay rack ride at Riverside Park opened up. I talked my 2 boys into going. My 7 year old and my 5 year old. My 5 year old was very brave and decided to go.
after a 2 hour wait by the bonfire, it was time to go. We all climbed in, 40 at a time and off we went. We get to our first station and cannons go off, ghouls come out, and mouths start flying. Not from the ghouls, but from younger kids (I say kids because I'm 34 and they were teens).
Now remember, I have a 5 and 7 year old with me. These kids were trying to grab the ghouls, flying around all over the place, and then the language started. It was F- this and P--- Monsters that... non stop. We get to the gallows where we watch a reaper hang 3 guys who break off the ropes when they come down and charge after us... Normally this part is spectacular, but we had 3 or 4 youths in the ride and as the reaper was talking, one was shouting "Take the (substitute any male genitalia slang here) out of your mouth you f'in maggot." (but not really maggot, but rhymes quite nicely).
it continued the whole 20 minute ride. I loved the hayride, and especially taking my 2 boys for the first time, but could not get into it myself because I was disgusted by the rudeness of these kids.
I made sure to tell my boys that that behavior was not what should be going on, and not to let it ruin the good time they had. I few of us parents told the PITA's to watch their language, but it didn't help.
Just a little rant because I'm so p'ed over this...
What would you all do if you were in this situation? We have a couple more haunts to go through this week, but not to have to deal with this.

I'm afraid its the resposibility of the haunt's operators to get ahold of the situation and put a stop to it. And they wont do that until it starts to take away their patrons. So I guess my advice is to complain LOUDLY to the owners of the haunt and let them know you'd love to participate in what sounds like a great ride but you will not be back until the rotten teens are under control.
No excuse for that behaivior. Makes you want to find their parents and smack them around a little...Dear Sweet Leota, Beloved By All. In Regions Beyond Now But Having a Ball...

I would have asked the hayride operator to either tell them to knock it off or kick them off the ride. They should be used to dealing with idiotic teens and that kind of stuff just ruins the ride for everyone.
Sorry you had to deal with that!I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

Yeah. I agree. And if they didnt kick them off, I would have demanded my money back. Complaints dont always get the point across but losing money does. It doesnt take long before the operators give speech about no profanity!

That's a shame. Perhaps one day the kids who were acting out will look back and realize what idiots they were by ruining such a great holiday. I suspect it will be about the time they try to take their kids to a popular attraction and have to deal with teens acting this way.
I agree with the other comments here...talk to the operator and/or management about the issue. They should either refund your $$ or handle the problem kids.BigGeek (Chris)

That does suck. I don't see why the ride attendant didn't step in at any point. That's one of his jobs. It's a shame there are teens like that, not all of them are like that, i know, i was one of the ones who thoroughly enjoyed and respected stuff.

The bad thing is...there was no ride attendant. It's just the Hearse driver whose pulling two wagon cars. Perhaps there should be a ride attendant. That may have helped a little... maybe I should have complained about it...

Most teens need to be locked up until they are 30!

There should definetly be attendants riding along in each wagon, It would be nice if they could have one wagon dedicated to families, one to just obnoxious teens & young adults. I'm sure they probably can't, but it would help.coal miner's ghost: The bad thing is...there was no ride attendant. It's just the Hearse driver whose pulling two wagon cars.
Certainly go back and complain to the organizers if it's privately run, maybe even city hall if it was town run (though I doubt it since we all know how great the bureacrats there in Springfield are!)
I'm sorry that was your sons' first experience with a haunted hayrack. Next time, mention to the people doing the loading that you have young children and don't want to be on a wagon with rowdy, unruly people. Hopefully, if they get enough complaints they'll do something about it, since it drives away business by bad word-of-moth to the people that they do want coming to their event!Haunt to Live ... I think I would have confronted them about it immediately. When it comes to being with your kids, you need to sometimes.
