Okay, I'm really surprised about this.
I have a dummy hanging from the gallows as part of my Haunted Sidewalk. But, I just read an article where a couple in New Jersey had to take down a dummy hanging from their chimney as part of their Halloween display. The neighbors and the mayor did not like the racial undertones. They did not mean it that way at all. It was just a prop to them.
Here is a link to the article:

What should I do? Take mine down? I could just hang a skeleton from it instead. Or am I making something out of nothing?
Here's a picture of my hanging man in construction:

Crazy kinda reminds me how a local car dealership here in Texas had an ad that said tired of wet backs? referencing the heat and the need for good air conditioned cars when some Hispanics chambers complained that the ads was making fun of Mexicans which was clearly BS. That ad was clearly referencing being sweaty from Texas heat crazy how people get offended over nothing!! The dealership had to fire the manager and mandate sensitivity training to its employees to save face for nothing LOL its crazy.

I say leave it the way it is. And it's not against the law to have props like that out if it's for a clear occastion wich is Halloween. That couple from the article did not have to take there's down. If it's on your property then who cares. As long as your happy with it. And if you had a hanging skeleton isen't that kinda the same thing? It's also going for a dead guy.

In this country, it's probably best to leave the nooses indoors, lest you have Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson on your doorstep and your answering machine full of death threats.
Funny the same people put up crosses with a dead Jesus at Christmas, as if crucifying someone is A-OK versus hanging.

I don't see anything good coming from it. Living in the south where We live its best to leave that sleeping dog lie. If it just has to be done hang him from his wrists. We've seen guys get written up at work for making nooses out bailing cord.
Personally I don't see a problem with it but your neighbors might...

Be polite. Be professional. But, have a plan to kill everyone you meet.

Thanks everybody for the ideas. I decided to keep it the way it is. But, if one neighbor comments negatively I'll hang him by the wrists.
In the future I won't be doing a hanging man to save me some worry in the long run.
