I know that there are those people who have ACTUALLY been persecuted, and so are sensitive to certain issues, with good reason. BUT, I also believe that there are a lot of people right now desperately LOOKING to be offended, just so that they can make a great show of BEING offended
This is exactly what happened in one of our local towns. Some person, who was hoping to BE offended, WAS. They got to make a great show of personal affront, had their 15 minutes of fame and made some poor halloween haunters life miserable in the process.

I have a noose hanging from my roof, and as I put it up, I thought about the stuff going on in Jena and wondered if someone would take it the wrong way. I haven't heard anyone complain, but still the thought crossed my mind more than once. This story is sad. If you look hard enough you can always find something to be offended about. Some people seem to look harder than others.

I realize this is a halloween forum and not a political arena, but I must say I am not surprised. I have two words Duke Lacrosse.

I heard about this the other day, maybe from this forum, but they hadn't taken it down yet.
Honestly is ridiculous but i'm glad that the police realized there wasn't an actual crime if nothing else.
It is ridiculous what society has become though.
"people should be more sensitive to others" the woman said.
People should be considerate of others feelings yes, but that's not what this is about. This is about looking for trouble by dragging up something that happened decades and centuries ago and applying it to something completely separate for sake of attention.

Maybe if they'd have had the monster hanging by one of his feet, they'd have had nothing to complaing about? It was obviously part of a Halloween themed display, so twisting around to be all about lynching is a stretch. Guess we'd all be wise to avoid anything hanging out of a tree.

That's not a bad idea, hanging by the foot that is.
But i think it's more about the principle of the matter now, we shouldn't have to take down, or alter our decorations. Not when it's clearly justified as in this case.

I hang buckys from my tree from time to time [when I feel like climbing it ],
Its totally not racist, cowboys were hung all the time as were every race throuhgout history, its easy and lo tech
I allways think of the scene in excaliber when one of the knights is hanging from a tree along with his other dead knights
but if it offends a local neighbor - i say take it down after you explan its tru purpode - its not worth a fight, and there are plenty of props to go around
and they could allways make the nondicript dummy white- if thats ok with the complainer does that make her the racist?
