Is it just me or has the quality, and the quanity of this years merchandise really lame. Not counting the just halloween stores, our party america is pretty good. However, Spencer seemed to downsize this year and get more risque costumes. Wal-mart is just waiting for Halloween to be over, Kmart is ok but not great, Target is like kmart. Big Lots they are the first to have the halloween out so they seem to be good, but once everyone else gets theirs out they are like everyone else....lame. or is it just me?

Seems like most stores want to get right to christmas decorations.

I have noticed that too. I remember when Spirit Halloween Store opened for the first time and everything in it was well made, spooky, well priced.. From that year on, quality and scariness of Halloween merchandise has gone way down in all stores I come acorss. I have seen ads in Rue Morgue for Halloween stores, and they rock! But they end up being ultra expensive. It is very hard to find the good stuff anymore.

You might be a little jaded too.
There is alot of great quality stuff on-line that some stores will not carry because they can be bought on-line.
One thing we can do as a Halloween community is get it known that there are those who live for this stuff and we want quality and quantity!"I never drink....wine. Well maybe just this once!"

Yep.
And having xmas stuff out as soon as they take down fireworks from the 4th.... makes it not so special. Christmas decorations should go up around Thanksgiving.

The only good thing about xmas stuff out now is buying those moving reindeer for hacking/making into halloween creatures ! I just got 4 of them at orchard supply (the moving heads ones) last weekend at $20 a piece & it was no tax weekend !

No, I use the colored bulbs from the replacement packs quite a bit.
So, 2 good things about Christmas stuff out now.

It makes me wonder if because there are those of us who are willing to buy high priced quality items, there are more cheapy items for the average consumer. Still they don't have to be so crap! Personally though, I like the old die cuts/paper decor the best, so I guess I'm more in the cheapy range

Agreed. This year is a disappointment.
theworstwitch... I too love the Beistle paper cutout decorations. Need to hit the local 5 & 10 soon to get my annual fix.Nyx

I must agree with this post...in fact, I believe I can do a much better job of prop-making myself than most of the items I've found this year. In previous years there's always been one or two "OOOH! I MUST HAVE THAT!" items, but not so much this year.
I think I'll just keep on making my own stuff, as I learn so much when I do, and get more and better comments from the ToT crowd and neighbors, etc. I like to have some unique things, not only stuff that anyone can pick-up at the store. I think that has always been the thrill of the more expensive items...most people wouldn't pay for those things.
On the other hand, the more who decorate for Halloween, the better! So if they have to make some stuff cheaper to get more people into the "mood", then I guess I can accept that. It just gives me more incentive to do better myself!
