Do you ever get so caught up in getting everything done for your haunt, or have someone who complains about things not being done every fifteen minutes that you just want to give up and not do anything for halloween not indeffinately, but just for a year?
I know that giving up couldn't happen with my family, too many people in town see our house as almost a traditional stop, but lately i've felt that maybe the scariest thing we could do is to just not decorate for a year.
I dont want to belive that my family, who feels this strain every now and again, are the only ones. Does halloween setup bum anyone else out even knowing how well worth the trouble it is?

I was bummed just this afternoon when it hit me how much stuff I have left to do. My mother had a heart attack 3 weeks ago and that just threw everything off. (NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT HER! She's doing well right now.) But still, it just left me in total panic mode now.
And yeah, I may give it up after 3 more Halloweens (including this year). Next year it falls on a Friday and then in '09 a Saturday. Those are the best days. I may give it up after that. And when I do, you guys be ready. It will be one hell of a yard sale!!!! WOOOHOOO!!!! I have some GREAT stuff!"Scare me once, shame on you. Scare me twice ... you'd better run like hell."

Not sure what you mean when you talk about "someone complaining every fifteen minutes about things not being done." Are there things being neglected for the sake of Halloween decorating? I know my "honey-do list" is always calling me, so to keep the peace I really try to keep up on certain things that need to be done, and then there are no problems when I need to work on H stuff. I've never really though about "not" setting up for a year. I think if I did the momentum would be lost and then it would just fade away.
In the long run, the two hours of pleasure you get from people stopping by your house on Halloween night outweighs the work/sweat/frustration, etc.. IMO.

Well, I never really think of giving it up altogether ( I don't do a haunt, just a yard display) but am starting to feel the pressure of trying to get everything done that I planned and I get down about it and can't enjoy what I have completed. I plan for my witch display to go out next weekend but I still have to make one more set of hands and re-work the stirring mechanism sometime during the week. I want two skeletons in cages but I still have to build the cages. Easy project but I can't get motivated.
I have vowed that next year I will not be making any new props. Anything I add to the display will be store-bought. I figure my sanity is worth a few bucks!Dear Sweet Leota, Beloved By All. In Regions Beyond Now But Having a Ball...

people complaining- my mom started letting the kids decorate the house a few years ago, and my brother is doing his last theme, or so he says, for the house. he wants it just right and it was supposed to be put together by now but things have been delayed and even though eey thing is going up faster than we thought he still complains when no work is done when he thinks it should be.
i dont want to give up halloween but working on my costume w/o much family support some days are just so packed and pull me apart i just can't help but want to surrender one year to no festivities and just sit on the couch and veg all night to monster movies.
its really nice to know im not alone...somewhere in the north-woods darkness, a creature walks upright.
