I have probably not purchased a real pumpking in well over 7 plus years and I was wondering when is the best time to get a pumpking between now and October 31st?

I remember as a kid buying pumpkins a week or so before Halloween...but I also want to get the best pumpkins available and not be left with the crappy ones people have left over.

Any suggestions? When do ya'll usually by your real pumpkins for carving?

I think once carved you have maximum 2 weeks before it's a gonner. But when to buy? Maybe 2 weeks before carving? I have seen plenty of pumpkins displayed on front steps already.

We pick up ours (around a dozen) two weeks out from the big day, and carve them the weekend before. Where I'm at, it stays hot and humid so if we carved any sooner, they'd start getting moldy.

I'm glad you asked this. Of course you don't have to carve them yet -- buy now and use as-is until the week or so before Halloween.

Now why didn't I think of that?

Ok cool, when I was a kid we would buy them and want to carve them right away (to excited and anxious, lol) so now I'll be able to go to my local supermarket tomorrow and get some pumpkins.

Don't forget pumpkin patches and apple orchards tend to have them cheaper than supermarkets (and fresher too!)

I buy mine early and carve late. about a week before halloween and refridgerate every night and keep out of the sun. they last pretty good as long as you keep them hydrated. I put mine in a bucket of water for a 1/2 hour every couple days.

I've bought pumpkins about a month before Halloween and they kept just fine until the week before Halloween when I'd carve them

I know from experince that all the good pumpkins are gone with in the first two weeks of October. So if you want a nice one, then I'd pick it up now. Most peoole wait a week till Halloween it's self to carve them and thats a good idea.

If you dont wish to carve them they should stay good for about a month (maybe even more) if you wanted to use them for November as well.
